Got caught in heavy rain with my CHAD

Is there anyone who has the chad who is 6' or taller? I have the large F1 slider and I am 6 feet tall, and I'm getting bad head buffeting and noise at speeds over 65 mph. I've tried several different helmets, so I know that's not the problem.
I am 6ft and I get no buffeting or turbulence at all with Chad. With my visor open it is quiet but a bit of wind noise is apparent with my visor closed :dontknow: I use a flip up helmet and they are notoriously noisy. I sit up with 4" rise on my bars.

+1 and I don't even have the CHAD adjusted all the way up.

How did the automobile tire do in the heavy rain? Were there any signs of hydroplaning?

Another question - I liked your catch can and filter arrangement for the crankcase breather. Looking ahead to the future, I am thinking of doing something like that on my next Spyder. Do you happen to remember what the diameter of the breather hose is on the Spyder. Would it be standard, or metric?

Not sure if this helps mdr but I'm 6'4" and I had the F1 slider windshield. I never had a problem with what I would consider head buffeting but I feel that everyone's definition of head buffeting is different. My experience with the F1 slider was identical to what mrb describes with his CHAD, no buffeting or turbulence and I could open the visor on my helmet and have a very quiet ride but I got a lot of wind noise when I closed my visor.

It's odd because I originally tried the smaller F1 (21-26.5) and when I ducked down a few inches while riding I had a great pocket where it was quiet and I wasn't getting beaten up. I thought the larger size (24-31.5) would be ideal, but I am actually getting more head buffeting and noise with this shield than the stock. I've used my full helmet, and 3/4, visors up and down, and different settings with the slider. I know others have had success with the slider, but I guess this just isn't the screen for me so I'll put it in classifieds and try the chad or wait and see what people think of the new brp screen. Thanks to the the chad users for the feedback! Maybe some of us in So. Cal can take Lamonster out for dinner and try to convince him to modify some chads while he is in town.

Just got my CHAD - easy to install. Stock rubber washers pretty much worthless - going to replace with nylon.

Works really really well -- rode 50 miles and don't think a single bug ever hit me--- my full face shield was still clean when I got home!

Still have to round the corners off to get the better look.

Instructions are a bit lacking--- pretty much just a parts diagram - but not difficult to figure out.

Mount everything to the Spyder first- including the adjustable sliding brackets - then mount the shield on LAST.

It does seem to jiggle a bit on the top at high speed - but nothing that is bothersome.

Wind on the hands is reduced - and I would swear I feel less vibration in the bars.

I think this will be my final shield---- so I may be selling some of my collection. For sure going to sell my CalSci XL with Laminar Lip - which works just about as good as the CHAD for my 5'8" height - but the looks didn't quite do it for me. I can ride with my shield open on the CalSci - as well as with the CHAD.

The GIVI I have looks so sharp I'm not sure I want to part with it - but you can't ride with an open shield with the GIVI.

No Head Buffetting on any of these 3 setups - the GIVI provides the most direct wind - but it's an even wind - not jumpy like with the F1's.

Also nice to see the DOT certifications stamped on the shield - so you know it's the real deal. Very well made all around - perfect fit.

I would say for anyone wanting to solve any wind problems for once and for all that the CHAD is the final answer!

I got the 1/2 clear and 1/2 tinted --- looks pretty sharp!

I don't like you anymore (jk)...you're creating that ole Spyder mod. confusion...I'm waiting for the BRP ultra-touring to come in and you've made a very strong case for the CHAD (like most everyone else)...I'm gonna give BRP until June/July, and then I'm gonna go with the CHAD...and likely never look back! :f_spider:

:2thumbs::2thumbs::2thumbs::2thumbs::clap::clap::clap::clap:CHAD is the way to go Sir!:doorag:

Well--- you're really gonna hate me now-----

I drilled and mounted my GIVI onto the CHAD tonight-------:yikes:

I'll eventually round the corners on the original CHAD shield - but in the meantime I decided to line the GIVI up to the CHAD shield - drill it and mount it. I'm calling it CHAD jr.

It looks great and seems to work good - not as much hand and shoulder protection - so I see it as more of a summer shield. Will post a photo sometime soon.

Yeah I know---- I'm crazy.:doorag:

How could you do such a thing? :dontknow::D

After riding to SC and back yesterday I decided I wanted more wind, or at least I think I do. The CHAD does a great job of blocking the wind and I keep going back and forth on what I really want so I decided to order another CHAD from No Magic and I took this one and made a Lamonster/CHAD Sport Shield out of it. :doorag:

I'll get a chance to put 200+ miles on it today to see if I like it.

Now here's the bad news. I got it all cut and shaped the way I wanted it and decided to paint the whole shield seeing it was so short now I could look right over it. I ran out of the first paint I used so I grabbed another can of some flat black I had and painted the rest of it. I made a teaser post about it last night and was going to snap some pics of it after it was mounted and when I went back out to the shop to take the pics the other paint and a reaction with the old paint and started to wrinkle up.:yikes::gaah:

So I panic and tried to wipe the paint off. When I did that it just made a terrible mess. Now I have this sticky goo on the back of the shield and I'm freaking out.:helpsmilie::gaah: I grab some thinner and it made a bigger mess. Then I used my old stand by. I use this for everything from killing bugs to removing paint. I sprayed a little carb cleaner on a rag and started to wipe it down. It was working pretty good. It seemed to be fine but was taking forever. So being the patient guy that I am I just squirted the whole shield down and it was coming off great but then I realized the shield was getting real sticky and what it was doing was melting the shield.:gaah:

So now I'm really freaking out and ready to do the same thing I did to my GPS. :cus: I decided to try and calm down :chill: and try and make the best of it. It looked real bad and the spray that ran out of the mounting holes and down the front had etched the front of the shield. Now I'm really hosed. I decide to go ahead and try and sand the whole thing out. That didn't work worth a darn so now I got to see if my painter can save me from myself. If not I guess I'll just put the new CHAD on that I'm going to order today. Man what a nightmare. I got it all put back together last night about 11pm.

Here's what it looked like before everything went horribly wrong.

Ready to lay it out.

That didn't hurt too bad. I cut a little over 5" off of it.

I did come up with a great way you mount a GPS on the CHAD. I used a RAM mount I got from No Magic and I'm pretty happy with the way that turned out. :doorag:

Here's a teaser of some of the paint work I had done too.

I'm not gonna comment on the painting/cutting of the second CHAD. I know how much frustration you must have felt.

I will say thanks for the GPS mounting idea. It's funny, 'cause after I first saw Ev in Vermont, he said "We have a nice mount that'll attach right to your risers..."

When we got back from downtown Canada, I ordered two and they've been sitting around while I was thinking of a different (easy!) pllace to put them both---You read (what I wish was in) my mind!

(Again, condolences on the shield. I was gonna drill holes in my BRP sport shield and see how it mounted to the CHAD bracket for a semi-sport-CHAD-noCHAD Lamonster style set-up...except, you know, without the goop. :joke: )

My GPS is mounted much the same, but I used a RAM-B-337U female 1/4-20 ball instead of one of the CHAD adjuster nuts. I did have to shorten the male adjuster a tiny bit with the grinder.
