I will be ordering my RT Limited in a few weeks and I wanted to get a sense of the tool stock I need. I like installing my own farkles and doing my own maintenance (I'll only go the dealership route for service milestones to keep the warranty faery happy). So, tool-wise, what am I looking at here? Metric, standard, allens, torx? I am geared up for metric right now coming from my Victory... American bike, metric fasteners. Say what? :roflblack: Thanks in advance. :thumbup:

Yup, metric, allen and torx. That pretty much covers it. And more torx than allen to be honest. The only allens I've come across so far are on the drain plugs and a couple on the lower side to get the bottom black panel out for oil changes.

Now, if you're going to remove the rear tire, that takes a BA wrench/socket. I don't recall the size off the top of my head (larger than the 19 and 21mm on my BMW), but I just ran over to my local Ace hardware where they have craftsman tools and was able to get the sizes needed.

One word "Torx"

Torx T-30 socket and an inch pound torque wrench. Everything seems to be a T-30. The torque wrench will pay for itself in saved grief. I suggest 1/4" drive.

IThe torx is the only add. 36 mm axle nuts the rest are standard metric, a lift is nice and there are many. I get by with these...

there are full drive ons as well. Good plastic cleaner (pledge works well) you should have the rest from what you say...congrats:2thumbs:

May as well by a belt tension gauge from Ron while he has them.

You will need a large torque wrench for the wheels. For the rear, a 36mm socket and a combination wrench.

I would also consider getting the specialty pliers for removing the POS plastic rivets they use.

Beyond tools, since the mirrors must come off for almost everything you do, buy extra mirror clips and mounting plastic discs.

BTW, as for Torx, there are more than size 30 used, get a good set. Especially for the drain plug.

I typically use my Motion pro 1/4 or 3/8 T handle without spinner, and most commonly a Snap On 1/4 drive magnetic bit holder and use that for Torx and also for sockets.

Just got a pair of the center pin plastic rivet pliers from Harbor Freight... less than $10 and spring loaded if I recall. I had ground down some recesses in a set of angle needle nose pliers from HF, but looking forward to less pinched fingers with these....

That is a loaded question....

I know this is a hard question to answer not knowing just how you are with tools and what tools you have.
I have a large Snapon box that is full up, and a Mac box that is also full, and I still don't have all the tools I could use...
if you are planning on carrying them with you in the Spyder, maybe a good place to start is go to SEARS and buy
a mixed tool set the type with wrenches, screw drivers, pliers, torx and allen wrenches, a voltage tester, a 12 volt test light
that is a good start then build from there.

Pit Posse makes a 36mm wrench that is slim and perfect for use on our rear axle. It was made for use on HD bikes. Bonus is that it is a lot cheaper than a combo wrench.

Bought my 36 mm at Sears ( best price ).....T - 30, 27, 25 can be had singly at Home Depot good price there also....also a 6 mm allen socket should do it .. Mike :thumbup:
