I want to mount my radar detector in the trunk. 2014 RTS SE6

I would like to mount my excort 8500 radar detector in my trunk. I also have a remote smart cord that I can mount on the auxillary
panel just below the steering bar ,suspension setting,fog light and heated hand grip settings. Has anyone done this before? What would be a good place to route my wiring for this setup. Thanks

The tupperware shouldn't affect the signal, but you will need to rely on the visual of the remote smart plug. I mounted mine right on the handlebar with an X-grip. Will put in the frunk when leaving the bike. I did buy a cover that will cover the windshield, dash and seats, so that might give me safety.

the clip is from a pants hanger, i cut the clips off the horizontal bar, and super glued one to the bottom of my radar detector...
this holds the unit well, and is e
easy to remove when parking your SPYD3R...
these clips are also handy for keeping your potato chip bag, and other bags, closed...

Obey the law and drive the speed limit or 5 over. You won't need to mount the RADAR detector. Paranoia leads to a shorter life.

Very clever Dan, I'm wondering if your detection distance is shorten by it being pointed down instead of straight?

Jack, some of us are paying attention to the road and not the speedometer and the speed creeps up on you. With a $500 fine in a school zone, its smart to have a helpful warning to you.

I HAVE THE SAME DETECTOR IN MY TUNDRA, AND I CAN SAY THAT THE SLIGHT ANGLE IN WHICH IT IS POSITIONED ON MY SPYD3R HAS 'ZERO' NEGATIVE EFFECTS ON THE UNIT.... it's a 360 degree unit, so it should work in every direction...

As a former LEO, IMHO even tiny PD's are using " LAZER " now and RADAR detectors won't help you with that..............Annnnnnnnnd the thing with LAZER is it's like a gun ...it fires a " beam " and when it hits it's target .....it's all over.............all this occurs in a milli-second ......................Good Luck .....Mike :thumbup:

Still gotta be smart about using it though.

As far as the built in detector, use a small LED that is in your clear view as a warning, but not obvious to others.

Having had a det. since the first ones came out and having them pay for themselves quickly, I found that if they are using a laser gun, if you are the only vehicle, you could be toast, but in a busy street, you will get the bounce off the cars in front of you and have time to slow down.
On a car they aim for the licence plate, being the flatist thing for the signal to bounce back on, I don't know that they would get a good bounce back from a bike. If I get nailed I'll let you know how they did it.

Thanks for the feedback, I did think your idea was a smart one. you can also see it go off, as I doubt you could hear it. I'm going to add a power plug, so I can see my smart cord when it lights up.

Then radio to the chase car and they would make the stop. I understand Mike, and for the most part you are totally correct, but I have been in a line of cars and the det. goes off, Laser and I look ahead and there he is with the gun. It must scatter or bounce off to some degree. Lucky since they have to be active, just standing there with a laser gun is too boring. All of the cities here have them but I don't see that they use them much. Usually on holidays or tourist events that bring in a lot of people. I usually never do more than 4-5 over, and that is why I use my cruise control everywhere. It's too easy to drift up. I'm still getting use to the bike's throttle.

May I throw out there that a bad cop can "say" he got you w laser and it sticks in some courts...whether the cop has you or not?

When I was young and bulletproof, I worked undercover for the state. I understand the different radar "guns". IMO, if you have your doubts that you were speeding and the cop says "I have radar" Ask to see it and take the serial number down.
