There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Gas leak?

Hello every one. I'm new to this forum, spyder ryding, and this is my first post so I'm not quite sure how to ask this but here it goes. I recently bought a 2013 STl and I love it. Last week I was lucky enough to have a 60 degree day in colorado so I took my spyder out to run my errands and take the very long way to work. On my ride I noticed the smell of gas,I have smelled this before but more so this time. I parked my spider at work headed inside after about 15 minutes I looked outside at it and saw a wet ring on the ground under it so I headed out to investigate. I touched the ring on the dirty parking lot and it was kinda red and oily,I looked where it was coming from,it was a bolt sticking through the under skid and I touched it and was very wet, smelled it and it was gas. My "assumption " is that my evap canister was overloaded and the gas turned back to liquid and was leaking out, just guessing from what I have have read on here about the heat issues on the st. Is this something the the dealer can fix under warranty or just one of those things I need to live with praying I don't turn into ghostryder. Thanks in advance:f_spider:

If you have gas leaking out of your Spyder you need to take it to your dealer.

True, but its just to file a report. Its not like they are going to do anything until the NHTSA investigation on the evap system failure in design is complete.

Its a defect, the NHTSA is investigating. Your dealer will say "they all do that". Some have burned to the ground. There is no BRP sanctioned fix at this time.

Take it to your dealer ASAP, and get a proper diagnosis, as we all know what the result
of "assumptions" can be.
Hopefully it is an easy fix for you.

This gas is most likely from the evap canister. It is a design flaw. But the heat under the tupperware is a huge contributor to the evap problem. I will assume you do not have the 2014 airflow panels installed on your 13 ST-L. Pettition to your dealer about this and also contact Steve at BRP care to have the panels replaced under warranty.
The 2014 panels do not completly solve the issue but it helps. They will also make your ride more comfortable on the warmer days.
You can also remove the bottom panel (skid plate) on the left hand side. I believe this also helps. It is not needed and it makes it easier to change your oil if you do that on your own.

Ditto on the 2014 panels. It helps a lot. They are free from BRP.

If the puddle was roughly about in line with you knees and a little right of center, it is the Evap Canister. You can feel the spot where the evap hose is attached on the bottom of the bike. The gas gets too hot and boils. It overwhelms the evap canister and the fumes exit under the bike. The dealer will tell you this is normal.

File a complaint with NHTSA

This was my bike after a ride. I hooked an extension hose to the evap overflow:

Me too..!!

take it back to the dealer and have it checked out. Could be a fuel line or in the event it is the canister they could replace it...:dontknow:

Yes, it should be checked out for leaks. Replacing the canister would not help any.

I forgot to mention my short ride home and since I have parked there has been no sign of the gas the other reason I believe that it's an overloaded evap

Gas leak update

Ok all here's the update on what the dealer did...
they replaced the charcoal canister and purge valve for the overload of gas.
durring this time I also emailed brp about the airflow panels and I got a response in less then 12 hours forwarded it to the dealership the sent in the case number to brp and was replaced in less then a week. Have road about 5 hours over the weekend and no gas smell or sign of gas leaking, looks good maybe I wont turn into ghost rider on my 11 hour ride to Spyderfest. Looking forward to meeting you all there.....
PEACE:doorag:
