• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

NHTSA investigation update

seriously people, what do you think the outcome will be, reverse fans?, new motors?, powder coating everything that gets hot?, a buy back program towards a new bike?, we don't know what it could be until you hear what decision they make. so why beat a dead horse and just wait and see

Hope to see it resolved to everyones satisfaction. My guess is they do nothing more than revised tuning to the ecu via a software update. Maybe a couple heatshields that stick on and a caution decal that if fuel smell is noticed to stop riding immediately and have the dealer work on it.

As for hobby, agree it is for most, and no doubt some use the Spyder as a daily driver.

Riding spyders and beating horses....kinda what goes on around here....:roflblack:

But; without knowing the source of the fire... :dontknow:
More information is needed, in order for this one to count for much.

Deadline for BRPs response to NHTSA is tomorrow. Have the truckloads of paper left CA yet?

Will be interesting to see if they actually respond to the demand letter.

i hate to ask this question to go further off the subject, BUT what do you think BRP will do if they can't find a fix, i asked a couple of members last night in PM'S about maybe they might stop selling spyders in the states, so what do you think. lets face it, it will cost them a arm and a leg to do any fix other than a software change. just a thought so please don't attack me for thinking like this

there are other changes that won't cost them an arm and a leg. yes it may cost them money but they do have some deep pockets so I highly doubt they would quit selling here in the USA

By my best guess, the fumes and heat problems on the 2013s could be fixed for less than $5k per bike, including labor. Yes, a tidy sum but cheaper than buying the bikes back and they could likely bring the parts cost down by a number of means.

New body panels and air cleaner assembly to move air through the engine bay.
Ceramic coated header pipes.
double wall insulated fuel tank.
Relocate the charcoal canister ala 2014s
Reverse flow cooling fan at low speed or stopped ala 2014s

Even if they did all of this, its not the end of the Spyders financially. but I dare say, IF they did all this, the 2013s would be nearly as good a bike to ride as the 2014s except for the torque and fuel mileage of the ACE.

how many bikes that have the problem are in the states and even at 4k a bike what do you think would be the total cost

bet dealers are not looking forward to this as well. no telling how long they get strung out to be reimbursed.

if they come up with a dollar figure then I think they should make the offer to the owners and then let them either cash the check and deal with it themselves or take your bike to an authorized dealer and let them deal with it.
