Painting a 622 Trailer

I just purchased a 2014 cognac RT-S, and the dealer moved the hitch over from my '13 LTD. He told me the cognac trailers are no longer available, so I'm going to paint my little used 2013 Lava Bronze trailer. Any ideas on what that should cost, where the paint can be purchased, and what type of paint/clear coat is needed to match the bike perfectly? Also, is the body typically removed from the frame for painting?

This is just my experience.......

Went from Blue to Basic Glossy Black, they did remove the two door openings prior to painting (that was all they removed).

Cost $600.00 and that included a clear coat. Paint shop supplied the paint.

Expect to pay 30% more for a good professional paint job (mine was done at a professional shop but, by a friend).

to replace the protective film on the front after it's repainted. I may be wrong, but I don't think you can reuse it. You can reuse the rock protector.

Today's your lucky day... I have a new, never opened, package of the protective film (part # RT622 219400270), including instructions. It sells for $184.99. I'd sell it to you for $90.00, delivered to your door (lower 48).

We have painted both of our RT 622's to match newer Spyders. Both my wife's Lava Bronze and my Pearl White were two stage paints. We supplied the paint by going to an automotive paint house and having them match up the paint to side panels we left with them. That way you can use something other than the water based paint that BRP must use due to Canadian laws.

Finding a shop to do water-based work in our area was very, very expensive.

The paint cost us a bit over $100 a quart (enough to do the job) and my local body shop charged $450 to do each trailer. They removed both lids and painted them separately.

We did not use the factory mylar stone guard as it was too expensive. Instead we had the stone guard area done with spray-on bed liner that works very well and I think looks better.

you would have to check with shops in your area. They vary from shop to shop and state to state. They can supply the paint or you get your own which ever is cheaper. Happy hunting...:thumbup:

Had mine done from black to red.

I asked the dealer for a recommendation and they hooked me up with the guy they use anytime they needed custom work done.

Forgot the price, but I brought him just the shell and lids off the frame to make it easier for him to paint. He took care of matching the color, clear coat, and polish.

But as others have said, if you can just take of the doors, that's a lot easier.

Had mine done from white to "yeller". Not sure what the cost was because it was thrown in my total package when I bought my 2013 RT-S.
