My only transportation when I was in Korea was my 883 HD Sportster, luckily I only lived about 2-3 miles from the 121st Evac Hospital, and I really didn't have too much problem with the cold there, but, when I came back stateside, stationed with a MASH unit I lived about 45 miles from Ft. Riley, KS, straight south. It had gotten down to about -20 F one night, when I went out to start my car, it wouldn't turn over, the oil had thickened to the point that the battery didn't have enough juice to crank it. My 883, however, I kept on the porch, sheltered from the cold and when I hit the starter on that HD, it fired right up, now I don't know what the windchill factor for -20 F at 60 mph into about a 20-30 mph wind, but, I can tell you it is REALLY quite chilly! My right big toe got frostbite, and the saddest part was, I STILL HAD TO GO HOME, I don't think it ever got above 0 that whole week, but I did learn enough to get an oil dipstick heater for my car so that wouldn't be a problem again, lol. I don't get terribly concerned when the temperature is still on the positive side of the thermometer anymore. However, I also grew to like multiple digit temp readings more than single ones, when it comes to motorcycles.
