Heli Bar riser/pullback especially for the Spyder

Is anyone currently using this? I sat on a Spyder with them installed, and I really liked how they felt. They raise the bars about 1" and bring them back towards you about 4.5". They can be used with the BRP 1" riser as well to go up 2" and back abou 5".

I especially liked that the original bars are left intact. They seemed a good height and pull back for those of us with shorter proportions. I'm 5'3" and very short waisted.

I don't have any experience with these bars. Most are using the NMN or the Kewlmetal bars. I have the 1" BRP riser with 5" kewlmetal bars.

I don't have any personal experience with them either but moving it back the way they do would widen the arc and give it a tiller effect. Not sure if I would like that on my Spyder. :dontknow:

The bars seemed to turn/pivot over a new centerpoint. Not sure I understand what you mean by "tiller efect". The bars don't swing, they pivot.

Hmmmmmm. Now I don't know what to think. The dealer where I am thinking of getting my Spyder will put the Heli Bar riser on for a decent price. Less than the total for the BRP 1' + NMN 3" riser combo.

But I haven't driven the Spyder with either. So, I don't know. Now I'm confused.:banghead:

If this is a new machine why would you buy a 1 inch BRP riser then a 3 inch NMN riser? :dontknow:

If this is a new machine just get our 4 inch riser kit to start with?

That is the correct way to do a new machine, not put on the 1 inch BRP riser than the 3 inch kit. We only made the 3 inch kit for people who long ago had added the BRP 1 inch kit and did not want to have to remove it to add more rise.

Using just the 4 inch NMN kit to start with is by far the least expensive way to add this much rise to your Spyder bar none.

:agree:

What he said! I would have just put the 4" riser on had I not already had the 1" BRP.

They work great and keep the original look of the Spyder. Most important to me is that they can be adjusted. I've got the black anoydized ones and they are SHARP looking.

You know, there is just too much to consider as we finalize what BRP add ons to get at purchase while also considering what future aftermarket parts I want.

You guys don't have a husband looking over your shoulder asking you "Why would you want to do THAT??" It's like I have to get this correct right off the bat. It's driving me crazy!

I was offered first riser from helibar free to use my spyder as prototype and I thank god I didn't and went with nmn riser instead they look so much better heli looks like to much stuff being moused nmn nice clean and simple

Heli bars

I saw these in daytona during bike week at corbins. When i got home i ordered them they feel great ,turns real easy.I had kewl metal on but i like these alot better.BILLY

That's what is meant by the tiller effect. More like the Spyder is turned by swinging the hands to the left or to the right instead of pushing one hand forward while pulling the other hand back. I'm not sure if its truly that exagerrated with the Helibars but thats what was meant. As far as I know, Sopher is the only member here who has the Helibar setup. Maybe he can chime in with his opinions. Last I knew, he was happy with them.

I was the orginal guiney pig for the Heli-Bars. I love them and would not part with them.

The best answer is what YOU like. Everyone has their own sense of what they like and don't like.

Search the forums and you will see a lot of posts. What ever you choose, your ride will be better. That is for sure.

I put the Heli on my spyder with the 1" BRP riser and like them. It turns easier and the pull back is more than what you get with the others, I have no experience with the NMN or Kewl, but I do like the Heli + they offer a center piece with a power outlet and ram ball mount if you want it. I think the Helis are more difficult to mount, but if the dealer is doing it - no big deal.

Do either of you have any comments on the Spyder steering with the Helibar setup regarding the "tiller effect" mentioned? :dontknow:

The wife's Spyder has the BRP + Heli set up and the tiller effect is negligible.

Supervising the install...

Actually there isn't any more of a tiller effect with the Heli's than with any of the other kits, it's an optical illusion.

It's simple geometry with a point of rotation (axis) and 2 end points (the grips). The grips rotate around the axis the same way with the Heli bars as they do with the NMN or KewlMetal bars IF they are at the same position relative to the axis.

If you look at the picture of the Heli-Bars in this thread just imagine a normal handlebar rising from the steering column out to the grips, that's the Kewlmetal setup.

I don't understand or know what the "tiller effect" is. I think the spyder steers and corners easier than it did stock. The other risers cliam the same. I think the heli bars pull the bars back more that the others out there, but the others raise them up more. I also have forward foot pegs which help with the cornering also.
