Lost my Spyder Dealer

mdblege

New member
The Spyder dealer in Beaumont, TX is no more. Beaumont Tractor in Beaumont TX as of 28 September will no longer be a Spyder dealer, they dropped there contract, they will still handle the ATV and Side by sides.:banghead:

So now I need to find a good servicing dealer any recommendations for Team Mancuso or Conroe Power Sports. They are the nearest dealers. I have used Lewis Power Sports, I got my laser alignment done there but they 250 miles away.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

I contacted Beaumont Tractor last week because I heard good things about them. I was disappointed that they decided to give up the Spyder franchise. I did however get in contact with Kevin Craig from Mancuso North. I found him very honest and concerned about my on going heat problem on my 2013 ST L. He did more for me in 20 minutes than the several weeks dealing with Mancuso South. I will have more information about my dealings after I have the new panels installed. So far everything is finally looking up. He would be the gentleman I will deal with in the future.

Hmmmm Being a Spyder dealer

must not be the pot of gold some on Spyder Lovers seem to think it is. With a post I made which upset a lot of people, I explained part of the problem whether SL readers want to buy it or not.

Sad news..!!

but if we consider the multi dealers one has to admit spyders are not a big part of sales in some areas. If they carry the line of brp products then it is big but roadsters alone not so much. Keeping good techs is also hard to do...hope you find a new one at a reasonable distand and well staffed...

Just curious... Did you find out WHY they made that decision?

Why stop selling Spyder

A lady from "Beaumont Tractor" called me and said they had sold only 9 units and serviced 3 others. The demand was just not there so they got out of the Spyder business. :dontknow: Sounded like it was our loss.

Part of your dealer agreement is taking delivery of a certain number of units, so you need to make sure that you have sales and business to sell the units if not you are stuck with them and paying interest on them sitting in the crates.
Also BRP dictates the number of units you must take delivery of.

I've heard that before. No reflection on this current dealer in Beaumont, because I don't know their circumstances, but I can understand why BRP would do that. The Can-Am Spyder is still somewhat of an oddity in many markets. I don't know if BRP guarantees any sort of exclusive sales territories to their agents, but either way, BRP would want to make sure they sign on with a dealer who is going to aggressively market it. A dealer who is content with a low sales volume would discourage another potential local dealer who may be more aggressive.

I had a decent local dealer drop the line, but could and did continue to service Spyders for several years - until they finally closed the doors. It necessitated a 120 mile round trip to get service and parts, so I was Spyderless for almost a year, until a new dealer came along.

For me, if the round trip to a decent dealer exceeds 100 miles, I'd dump the bike - especially the 990, which requires more attention than the 1330. Saying 500 miles for service is just a good ride, is ____________.

These are toys, and there are lots of other choices, without that kind of angst.

Where we are sitting right now it is over 100 mile round trip to any MC dealer. People still ride here though. For me it means that I do most stuff myself. And when we get back down to our home place it will only be a 40 mile round trip to a MC dealer, of course the Can-Am dealer will be almost 200 miles round trip. It is all about personal choices as to what is important. I prefer country living which means that I have to travel for some things. Just getting a jug of milk is 20 miles round trip from here.

I couldn't agree more with what you said. I know there are riders who disagree and will plan an overnight stay to get their Spyder serviced 300-500 miles away. I think this says more about the "state of affairs" with the current dealer network. For how many years has BRP been talking about improving the overall quality of the US dealers??????? My assessment is that not much progress has been made in this area. How can labor rates vary from $80.00-$150.00/hr???????

How much being a Spyder dealer is a "pot of gold" may be just like other things in life - If you fully commit and work your rear end off you are likely to get "lucky" . If you make a half hearted commitment you will get the results you deserve

250 miles away is just a good excuse for a ride.

That's not funny! That can be the doom for the Spyders. If BRP was smart they would help the dealers that are having problems selling and/or servicing the Spyder. The selling end, give them Spyders at a better price, more local advertising. The servicing, BRP knows what repair parts are used most. Help them stock those parts and special tools they need. Service training by BRP training the guys or gals working on there products having the trainers come to the state or region. The BRP products are high tech machines that need trained people to maintain them and the parts to keep them on the road. I hear things like "well I can't ride, waiting for parts or They don't seem to know how to fix it", that can run into weeks and sometimes a month or more. That's IMHO.
