Seriously? :sour: Oil leaks, ignition replacements, tires going prematurely bald, porous cases leaking oil, reports from Florida of at least 6 engines needing replaced and other little quirks many mentioned here. Pretty much the same as any other first year engine model it has it's own bugs.

The ones that are right; are stellar!! :2thumbs:
the problems have NOT been major, and BRP seems to be working quicker to solve them.
The 2015s?? You have to wait until the 23rd...

Seriously Bob having to get the engine replaced is not "major"? The biggest improvement is they don't catch fire. You guy slay me your loyalty is amazing but I call a spade a spade.:dontknow:

From a previous post that you put in a plug, I said the following:

I do relate to Dave's problems, sorry for your issues. Were they mine, I would have got rid of the 13. Loss or not. To be miserable on a continuous basis is not a good thing.

By February of 2013 the handwriting was starting to show up on the wall about the 2013's. I mentioned it early on and was almost booooed off the site. A month later, my naysayers were mostly in agreement. I was going to buy a 2013, but did not.

I have a feeling I am going to get a flaming. But, I think you are going overboard by throwing in your complaint in almost every thread. What are you accomplishing?

All of the above said: Now to answer the original posters question:

Based on what we have seen, heard, and experienced, most 2014's have had little to no problems. There were three replaced engines for sure. BRP took care of the problem on a timely basis. I have put 7500 miles on my 2014 since April 30th. My bad was a faulty cable and lock mechanism. Finally fixed under warranty.

RE: The RT. Most are thinking that there are not going to be many additional changes for 2015. Two weeks and we will know. Probably some deals to be had on 2014's.

Also bought one of the first 2008 Spyders. That was REALLY a first year. Put 23,500 miles on that on. No problem whatsoever.

RE: Tires: my rear tires at 7500 miles look like I am going to get at least 10,000. My usual is 13,000 to 15,000. Mine was built 4/19 so maybe I got a better batch of tire. My fronts are looking good and hoping for the usual 20K.

My signature shows ownership of 5 different spyders. I am one of the happy customers.

Have put about 7,000 miles on my 14' RTS since July 2nd and I have had no problems at all. My rear tire is wearing faster than I like, but I have a brand new Michelin Aquatread sitting there waiting on it. Bike averages 35-39 mpg and that is not bad for interstate speeds.

Other than the early recall work, my 2010 was flawless - never leaked, never died, never let me down. It did use oil, about 1/2Q every 1,000 miles - all in all, not bad. My 2014 runs far better than my 2010, has service intervals and requirements that rival the big "H", and has addressed the ridiculous method of checking the oil, required by the 990s, with a dipstick under the seat.

I don't speak for others, but I couldn't be happier with my RT.

I was asked to recommend 13s to friends, and offered super pricing on new 13s - and I would not recommend them, nor consider buying one. I know I killed several deals over the last year, some of which are now happy 14 owners, and one awaits his new SlingShot.

I am sorry for those with problematic 13s, and am sure there are some bad parts that slide past QC and end up in someone's 14. Regardless, if you like Spyders, I would HIGHLY recommend the 14s. With them, you pretty much know what you are getting. If you want a 15, I wouldn't touch one before June. JMHO

The flamer above should trade his "crummy '13" on a new leaky Hardley.

I have followed every complaint on the 2014 and there have been plenty of problems I only mentioned a few. A whole spectrum of little things beside the leaks and engine replacements. Just as in the past every change has had some growing pains. The 14 may be a better mousetrap but they are far from perfect and I agree BRP is being proactive on getting them fixed unlike the 2013. I am not totally unhappy nor am I totally happy with mine it is what it is. Under 85deg it seems fine better under 80 deg. I am concerned about the lack of effort to come up with a real fix for it really would not take that much money for BRP just effort I have even given them several doable solutions. When the word came out (unofficially) that additional fixes were coming from BRP (their reps said so) I was hopeful. Fall is here and not a peep. The ST fix is not even official you have to beg them for the panels. All of it gives me a bad taste and I cannot afford to take the loss I would to dump it so I (and many others) are stuck. We shall see what NHTSA comes up with shortly. You happen to be somewhere that would allow you to enjoy them more. I haven't had a day below 90deg for almost 3 months. How much riding do you think I am getting? I refuse to get anymore radical fixing what I consider to be a design defect until I am sure BRP will do nothing. The 2013 frame is the same as the 2014 and was not designed to have a 998 in it plain and simple. It was supposed to have the 1330 but it still was not ready for prime time. Dealers denying any issues and incompetent service depts. do not help. BRP telling me to take it to a dealer that knows less about it than I do when I call them asking a tech question does not work. When the dealer asks me does it have a carb or is it fuel injected I get very suspicious :yikes: All I want is a reliable safe riding experience instead of wondering what will melt next. When 2014 owners say there are no issues with them they have not read the forum enough there have been a lot of little ones and a few big ones. Just the truth. Sorry if it hurts.:dontknow:

:roflblack: Ain't gonna happen. You tell people not to buy the 2013 and then call me a flamer what is wrong with that picture? When I get more than a couple of pieces of tinfoil to keep it from burning I will be just as happy with my 13 as any 14 rider.

Do not know about the 15's yet, but I have over 12,500 miles on my 14 and love it. Way way better then my 13 was. Back in Nov. I was able to get $20,000 for trade in on a new 14 limited and happy that I jumped on it. The only real issue I had with the 14 is fast wear on the rear tire and noisy brakes. Fixed the tire issue with a car tire and the brake noise with EBC brake pads.
Thinking back over the last 43 years of motorcycle ownership and I have always changed tires to a better make after the OEM wares out as well as some brake pads that were noisy on past bikes.
Would I like the tire to have lasted longer - of course, but have learned that is sometimes the price of riding no mater what brand, or type of motorcycle you buy.

I went from an '08 GS to a '14 RT and love it. I have put 5,000 miles on the RT and had a few minor problems.

The ignition switch was replaced because the frunk latch would not work properly and there is a small water leak in the frunk. The rear tire is wearing out and will be replaced by a Kumho (ordered from Tire Direct for $81). There is some foot peg vibration and harmonics from the belt even after the dealer adjusted it.

I do like that the average miles per tank on an SE6 is between 180-225 depending on what type of road we're riding - anything over 65-70 mph eats the gas faster. The split radiators in front of the A arms and the reverse fans manage the heat extremely well and I have not seen my engine temp bars go past the halfway mark even in 114 degrees over the Mojave desert.

Enjoy your new ride, which ever one you choose.

Most of us "experienced folks" remember that the Corvette of the '80s was the worst built vehicle in the US, rated BELOW the Yugo, and the later versions have come a long way. All manufacturers blow a model from time to time - BRP is no exception.

I kept an open mind, and returned when the early history of the 14s showed marked improvement over the 13s - personally, I feel the 14s are a world apart from the 990s - but there is noting wrong with the 10-12s. They are fun, reliable bikes. My recommendations to my friends who ask come from issues folks that I know have had with a particular year/model - not the brand. I - personally - feel that 13s were an imperfect bridge to the new model, perhaps one that BRP should have avoided. Like the really good Yugos that were built (I know of a couple), those who bought the bridge, enjoy the heck out of them.

JMHO

You make many valid points Dave, and I can't fault you for that. The 13 Saga is not good for anyone involved.

My button was pushed a bit when I see a rant at every chance in pretty much any thread.

I truly hope you can get things worked out and either get the issues solved or find a Spyder that works for you. It does appear that the new side panels are not taking a lot of effort to obtain. Have you worked with BRPCare or are you trying to get the issue solved through a dealer?

I have stuck my neck out three of five times with first year/new and been very lucky. It helps to have a pretty good dealer though. I do believe that everyone on the site does want to see your issues solved.

Mine has 19000 miles on it and I am leaving for Saddlesore 1000 in the morning with no doubts of making it. so clearly some of them are great. Based on the folks I know, most of them... Just look at the Honda recall thread on here to be aware that all motor vehicles have some percentage of issues

Akspyderman I have contacted BRP cares via pm several times here before copping my attitude never got a reply. I have several case numbers via phone and have never received any contact. The local dealer....well I have mentioned their incompetence and revolving door service people. Remember the standard line is nothing is wrong..... until it burns:dontknow:

HD recall

I have been on vacation and may have missed a few things. This may have already been mentioned on the forum. I believe HD has a recall on bikes and the models affected were told to park them due to the front brakes possibly locking up. I know the Spyders have had more than their share of problems but things happen to all manufactures.

Based on what you have done and all the things you have tried, you have valid issues. Were I in your shoes, I would also be very vocal. Sorry that I stepped on your toes. I apologize.

I really do hope that you can get the situation solved. The same is happening with Murphybrown and the saga of the trailer.
