Break-In Inspection

Bought a new 2014 RT Limited five weeks ago in Naples, FL and have 350 miles on it. After reading the owners manual from cover to cover, I'm curious to know what dealers typically charge for the Break-In Inspection and oil & filter change at 3,000 miles.

My wife and I love it. We both rode 2-wheel cycles for over fifty years... took me about 100 miles on the Spyder to make the transition and get comfortable... may take my wife a little longer.

The average dealer charges about $275-$300 for an oilchange/filter/checkover service. Unfortunately, this can be shocking to some. My Kawi Vulcan used to cost about $75 for the same.

Service on our favorite machine is not cheap if done by a dealer. The mechanically expert do a lot of the service work themselves. Buds (the computer stuff), can only be done by dealers. They do not sell the units for mechanics to use.

The upside: Service on the 2014 RT's is now less than previous editions. Next service at about 9000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first.

No valve adjustments required. Previously an additional $600-$800 for the service. :yikes:

Shouldn't that be next service at 12,000 Miles (3000 + 9000)

What ever the book says Joe. I read the book as stating every 15,000 km (9300 miles) or once a year--whichever comes first. The break in service performed at 3000 miles is listed separately.

Perhaps someone in the know could clarify whether the first service after break in should be at 12,300 or at 9,300 or once a year whichever comes first.

Me, I think an oil change/filter is a good idea at 9,300 even though I had it done at 4,500 in my case--due to oil filter shortage issue. A lot of people are not going to put 9,300 on their machines so they will also be putting in oil at lesser intervals than 9,300 in between services.

Just had the 3000 mile service on our 2014 SE-6 a couple of weeks ago. The total came to $337 after dealer discounts were applied.

1st Service $253

I paid $253 for the first service at 3000 miles on my 2014 RT Limited. That included the inspection, oil/filter change and any service bulletins they checked. Congrats on your 2014 RT Limited! It's an AWESOME machine -- we have about 6500 miles on ours - miles of smiles! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I'm at 2,800 miles and counting; I'll find out soon enough... :D
My dealer only charges $50 per hour; I'll make sure and let you folks know sort of hole it knocks into my wallet.

Looks like the US service is cheaper like everything else. Just had mine done $538.
I did have them change the oil to full synthetic but still pricy.

Going to do the service myself... not going to pay anyone 300.00 + for a oil change... I can inspect the bike myself and most likely do a better job... In fact the belt was out of aline when I took delivery of the bike. As far as any updates.... I can find nothing wrong with the way the Spyder is running now... If it ain't broke don't fix it....

RT was in the shop for warranty work plus tri axis bar installation, so I opted to have the dealer do the first service at $256. Normally hubby does all oil changes but the RT was there anyway, so it worked out (dealership is a 300 mile round trip for us).

One part of the first service is to check the belt tension. Prior to servicing there was footpeg vibrations between 74-80 mph, afterwards the vibration seems to be much less  Glad the dealer could improve my ride!

1st service

My dealer charged $450 for 1st service on my 2014 Rt Ltd,(think I got screwed):banghead:
