New Trailer Ordered

My paint job is over a month late. The gentlemen doing the work lost his 9-5 job so I'm cutting him some slack. Also, he's painting my trailer at a discount to make up for the delay. I hope to have the panels back this weekend but I'm not holding my breath.

I changed my mind on the trailer. I was all set to get a mini-mate camper trailer but I couldn't get behind the looks of the unit or any of the campers below $7k. Instead, I purchased a Butler Junior- 20 cubic feet of storage, 12" wheels, a great look, and a wonderful price. They're also a great company to work with. I told them I was having it painted and they agreed to knock a few hundred bucks off the price and leave it primed. My out the door price including tax was $2k. That's about $1,500 less than the Mini-mate and $2k less than the Bushtec. They're also located nearby which saves on shipping.

I'll post a more useful review once I've picked it up.

Excellent info...Bushtec is really nice, but they are certainly not cheap...when I'm ready to get a trailer, I'll keep all the companies handy and compare...

Bushtec's don't get really expensive until you start adding accessories to them. I believe a stock Turbo 2 is $2300 now and a stock Roadstar is $2600.

Anyways, congrats on your trailer purchase daddydarko. That means the tent is still gonna get some use I imagine.

You are correct, BJT about the prices on the Bushtecs (the Butler was $1799 before tax). Bushtec just kills you on extras. I only grabbed the tongue cooler option on my Butler.

I will, in fact, be using the tent a lot this year. I can carry a mattress pad and some more blankets/pillows now though so it'll make a big difference.

.
I think they're all that way... when I had the Valk painted, it was supposed to be two weeks. Six weeks later, it was finished.... but worth it.

.

I was pleasantly surprised when I had mine painted. Tallant's Hot Rods actually finished mine quicker than expected and under the estimate.

Sounds like you made a good choice. If the Mini-Mate wasn't so boxy looking I might have bought one too.

What camper above $7K did you like?

I was reeeeeealy close to ordering a leesurelite last month - even though I would have to have it painted - they had free shipping - and I liked that their 'Cycle' model was only 230 lbs!. Then I backed out because they now only sell their 'Excel' model - which is a bit heavier.

Still leaning towards the Roll-a-home----

I wish someone made a small teardrop that popped up --- hmmmm

We figured we'd be able to get a decent air mattress, a couple of sleeping bags, pillows and a tent into this used Bushtec we bought and still have room to spare.

Have you ever heard of American Legend motorcycle trailers? They do some pretty sweet trailers. Custom painted too.

I use the Thermarest self-inflating sleeping pads like backpackers use. They roll up small for packing on the bikes. Lots of guys nowadays prefer the inflatable mattresses. Much more comfortable than air mattresses. With a 12V air pump, you don't even need to inflate them the hard way.
