• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Dead Spyder with parking brake on

My RT is dead. Ignition switch will not turn to the position to raise the seat, so I can't charge battery to check that. I can't push it onto a trailer because the parking brake is set. Anyone know a simple way to realease either of these?

To trickle charge the battery use the back trunk 12v plug to release the parking brake you can release the parking brake cable on the rear brake .To open seat push down on key and turn

It's possible that something is holding the seat a little high for the latch to release, try pushing down on the seat just above the latch when you turn the key to open it.

There you go...!!

pushing the key in and turning it clockwise should release the seat. Then hook up jumpers and that will power the system so you can release the brake. You can also jump start it and ryde it home but don't shut it off till you get there. If that does not work disconnect the brake cable at the rear wheel...good luck..!!

Locked seat

I had similar problem. People on Spyderlovers stated to take a long wire, with a hook in the end, and lift up the end of the seat. Hook the latch and pull the wire and unlatch the seat. I then took a nylon wire tie and put it through the loop in the latch, so I could open any time.:clap:

:agree: The 12 volt port in your 2010's top trunk is "hot" all of the time.... Plug in, and give it a little time to make some Magic happen...
Is this the original battery?

 Please explain the hook idea to reach the seat release,

I took a long wire and made a small hook in the end of it. Then I took a flash light and pealed up the leading edge of the seat and then took the wire, with the loop end, and caught the latch and was able to pull the latch to open the seat. Hope this helps. It was explained to me also.:banghead::banghead:

dead spyder seat stuck wire trick

I tried your idea with a coat hanger, but no joy. I guess i don't understand what i am supposed to hook on to. Help please.

When you say it's dead, is it just because you can't turn the key? There is a known issue that could cause that.

The key will turn to all positions except to open the seat . Batttery can't be dead. I had ridden it 3 days in a row before this problem. The seat release is stuck, so I can't use the charging posts and I have been unable to find a charger with a 12 volt end.

You just need to hit a Radio Shack; they sell the adapter plugs in there...
Then, plug it into your top trunk power port. :2thumbs:

Something like this happened to me, I couldn't lock the steering, the key wouldn't move far enough. Turns out there's a wire bundle that runs close to the ignition switch/parking lock that can get in the way. Try turning the handlebars lock to lock, sit on the seat, turn the key to unlock it, and see if it opens.

The seat release is a mechanical cable connected to the ignition switch. It sounds to me that you've had a failure within the ignition switch itself. If you can't get it to work and release the rear brake, you can jack the bike up in the rear and put the back tire onto a wheeled furniture mover or motorcycle mover. They are around, they are just a small wheeled trolley type thing. Flatbed tow trucks all have those things.

Then the bike can be wheeled onto a trailer, then taken to the dealer, which needs to be done.
