• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Antenna Is Gone

After a highway run on my 2010, I stopped to find that my antenna is missing. Searching the forum, it appears that this is a common problem and was redesigned on the 2012 models. Why wasn't there a recall or at least a notification? I would have checked it and used Lock-Tite if I had known.

As I recall there was a service bulletin on the 2010. I can remember the dealer calling my wife and she took her 2010 RT in to have something done to the antenna.

Must have been redesigned on 2011's Mine was build Sept 2011 and I have 8000 miles mostly freeway and no issue with it.

There was a TSB issued on this...
Call your dealer, and see if BRP might be willing to replace it for you; you never received any notice about this bulletin, and it could have saved you from this problem.
Good Luck!

I bought the trike used last November. It only had 891 miles on it. It was just in for its first service a few weeks ago. They did all the software updates, but didn't mention anything about a TSB on the antenna. When I called BRP today, they said out of warranty and no coverage. This is THEIR design issue!

Story

That's a whole other story! I bought it from a cycle shop in TN. They told me that it had an extended warranty until April of 2015 and that it had just been serviced and looked over by Mid South Motoplex in Clarksville (including an oil change). I called Mid South and they confirmed all of this, including the fact that it was a bumper to bumper warranty.

Well, I had an oil leak a few weeks ago, so I called my local dealer in Cleveland. NO WARRANTY! When I called Mid South they said that someone must have been mistaken because it was just an emissions warranty. What?

So $306 to fix the oil leak, do an oil change and filters, clean up engine, etc. On top of all this, my local dealer says that he doesn't think the trike had ever been hooked up to a computer for analysis and that there were software updates going back to 2011. Most likely they didn't even do an oil change.

Never heard of an "emissions warranty"?
Sounds like the snowed you on that one! Sorry to hear that but I would have a convo with them for sure!
I know some dealers will sell you a extended warranty but usually only if yours has not expired yet.

Bob

I got a really good deal on the trike, so I feel like I'm still ahead. Just don't want the headaches and don't like being lied to.

Paperwork

Here is the paperwork from Mid South Motoplex showing the work before I bought the trike. You can see the things circled showing the extended warranty. As I said, now they are saying it's just an emissions warranty. I have never heard of that either!

So you have no paper work from the original owner?
When I bought mine used the original paper work and Best warranty sheet was in the pouch in the Frunk. Using that and the number on it, I had it transferred to my name with BRP. Took one phone call.

Also so you know the "usual" extended warranty is with "Best Protection". I believe that is a company used by BRP? Not sure.
But I have read here that other dealers may have sold a different extended warranty (cant remember the name). I do not know if BRP would be aware of that or not?

So you may have it and BRP doesn't know about it?

Go to Wal-Mart and get a replacement rubber antenna for 10.00 and forget about it, or call Harvey at Spyderpops, 501 627-4008 he has some neat retractable antennas for $21.00.

Mid South Motoplex isn't even being clear who this warranty is with. Regardless, they say that it is an emissions warranty, after having told me that it was full coverage before I bought the trike. They didn't sell me the Can Am, but they are an authorized dealer and service center and supposedly looked over it before I bought it from the cycle shop. As I mentioned, I don't think they even hooked it up. Wonder if BRP is aware of their dealer in Clarksville.

Thanks, Joe. I'm going to have to order the rubber boot that goes over the hole as well. I don't believe there is an aftermarket for that.

I would not trust what the dealer says!!!! They could be full of it. Especially with the emission stupidity statement! Someone is pulling BS on you.

If it had the Best warranty BRP themselves would know about it by your VIN number.

What I would do is call them and tell them you bought it used and to please update their records to change the name on the Best warranty. They will tell you straight out if your VIN had the warranty or not! They will want you to fax proof of purchase and your done. FOr sure check with BRP before concluding it does not have a warranty. By the way if it does and BRP transfers your name, they will mail you a new sheet and wallet card. They did for me.

FYI here is what it looks like. The number I called to check and transfer is on it. Other info blocked to protect personal info.
