• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

this is example of the large that I got from ron, it was less in price and got it to me very fast.

I have a little over 100k on my arai vector and a vent that my buddy had broke on the back was coming apart again plus ron had told me a while ago that the vector 2 was a huge improvement and he was right, quiet , light and more of a field of view. The vents are outstanding as well.

Ron is (in case you have not dealt with him) awesome to deal with, very fair in prices, plus he will take your feedback and give you real advice on what to get. On top of all that he is quite the rider of spyders.

After using arai's anything else I try just isn't as well put together, I know they are a little more money but what is your head worth? ( I would have been dead in either of my motorcycle accidents if it was not for my lids I had on, both were shoei's that were not as good as this arai)

That's a lot of money. I read several studies that say you get almost the same protection from a $79 cheepo as from a $600 helmet. If I recall correctly the difference was about 1%. So I wear a white Gmax.

Glad you like the new lid!

There is a lot more to a helmet than testing them on a machine when brand new. Careful data kept on years of MC racing accidents have shown consistently lower injury rates and less sever injuries when a high quality helmet is used.

Also, there has been testing on helmets that have been used at different ages (years in service). These indicate that lesser quality helmets do not retain their effectiveness nearly as well as a better made product over time.

With quality helmets you can get replacement parts for everything that might break or wear out. Lower quality helmets don't always offer this feature.

And lastly, less expensive helmets tend to wear out or fall apart more quickly with normal use requiring you to purchase another helmet much earlier.

There are a lot of good helmets out there and you don't necessarily have to spend a lot of money to get a decent quality helmet. But neither is spending more money necessarily a bad idea. If you ride a lot and spend many hours in a helmet, a more expensive helmet will probably give you better protection and may not cost you that much more in the long run.

how many miles do you have wearing you gmax? how does it work in -51 below and 114 degree heat?

Do the vents let water in so you can not see in a severe rain situation ?

I have friends that don't wear any helmet, which saves them money and they thought I was crazy for buying a blem'ed aerostich jacket , but after wearing it almost every day since I got it in 09 (I got about 90k on this jacket ) it still works , the only thing I had to replace on it was the zipper end which broke last winter. it was $375 and its made in duluth, mn.

I am still alive (40% of me anyway) because of what I had on, both shoei's I crashed in had easily over 25k on them for miles and they were no 70 degree and sunny day miles either.

BUT, if you don't ride as much and can not justify the cost of top end gear that your call, it seems very odd that you would have a spyder though, especially a RT which cost twice as much as all of my other bikes combined.
.

Helmet quality does move up with price. My last one was an HJC full face that was a $100 left over. It was a good full face but just had basic features. Just going up into the $200 range got me a Scorpion EXO 500 that has much better ventilation, better and easier to change face shield, drop down sun shade and hi vis graphics. It's an individual choice what helmet to wear, just wear one.

Wear the best helmet that you can afford.....replacement heads are kinda hard to find!!:yikes:

In the UK we have a helmet rating scheme which demonstrates the relative safety standards of
most of the helmets on sale in the UK. It claims to be the most exhaustive and complete set of tests
currently available. It's one of the better government run schemes.
Take a look. Try entering your helmet model!

Prices on the Arai drop drastically after they are 3 years old. That particular helmut is (pattern) and production date is very old. 5 years is the recommended useful life of Helmets by several i.e. Dot ETC. That is why the drop in price. Check the strap ring and the manufacture date is stamped on it.

Regardles it is a nice looking Helmut and I am sure it will give you a few good years of service.

I do not know the production date of the particular helmet that SethO received because it shipped directly from the distributor. The Classic Star model was discontinued in 2014 but was produced through the 2013 model year. The Vector-2 helmet has not changed so the 2014's are no different than the model SethO received.

Arai is very conservative with their helmet life expectancy. Even so, Arai helmets carry a full factory warranty for 5 years from the date the helmet is put into service up to 7 years from the production date. That is because a high quality helmet does not deteriorate in proper storage.

So even if you purchased an Arai helmet with a date stamp of 2012 you would still get a full 5 year warranty and can easily expect a full 5 years of service from the helmet.

I am most familiar with the Arai line but it is not the only helmet that will deliver this level of service.

The date on the snap ring of the strap will tell you the date of manufacture. The sun is what deteriorates the shell and makes it brittle, age shrinks and hardens the interior foam. Hey if you never need to use it what difference does it make, then again if you do--------just sayin.
