• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Services were held shortly after returning from yesterdays 400 mile test ride in 100+ temps.

The test included prolonged stop and go traffic and signaled traffic control when passing through towns. Foot heat was non exsistant...unless...there was a 20+ MPH wind blowing into the right front or side of the spyder. Acceptable. :thumbup:

On the road wind conditions ranged from still to 30 MPH winds. Tested in tail, side, and head wind. Wind conditions on the open road still have some influence but, not unlike the stop and go tests. It too is acceptable. :thumbup:

All foot heat issues were corrected by changing how the radiator fan air box holds heat (heat soak) and/or discharges heat. No holes were cut. No pipes were wrapped. The lower vent is and has been blocked for a long while. While it blocked air flow, it proved to be of little(if any)help blocking radiant heat. Fixed that too. :thumbup: A lot of thought and a little work has allowed me to say bye bye forever to the dragon!

Also put an end to the glove box/seat crack heat. Easy fix. 100% success.:thumbup:

Oh, and no boiling fuel. Credit that to JT's air filter. Thanks JT:thumbup:

One part of the fix.

so you are stating that removing the air box fixed your issue


Removal of the air box has greatly reduced under tupperware heat when moving(temps now stay very close to ambient, and it helps reduce heat soak after shut down or, long runs of stop and go riding). Once heat soaked it takes a while for 100 degree plus air to bring down heat soak temps of 150/60 degrees but, it does.

Nevertheless ryding this weekend 100+ it did run cooler stop and go was also a bit better. My wife seems to feel a lot less. JT's air filter does work well and opening up that area does let the air flow...:ohyea:

Test ride included your neck of the woods too. Came across the mountain to Sunrise Highway. Sunrise to Buckman Springs and over to Campo and 94 south into downtown SD. From there to Temec, and back over the hill to home.

It's beyond great to have the radiator fan air box(swoop)doing what it should have been designed to do from day one..

Had I known could have waved as you went by. We ryde back there all the time. Hope you took Otay lakes to Chula Vista on to Coronado then into town. I know you had a great ryde. We usually ryde into the hills and when it hits 110* or so head for the coast for a cool ryde down PCH. :ohyea::ohyea:

Added custom crafted flow directors inside the swoop area for vertical and horizontal air routing - to and out the upper vent. Cleaned the fan side of the swoop with isopropyl alcohol and laid down sticky back 2000 degree heat shield(required making a few paper templates to insure a quality job). Like laying tile ;)
Without doubt, this has stopped heat soak(of the heavy plastic swoop)from the constant 200 degree air being sucked/pushed through the radiator and transmitted to the right foot. Note: I only covered the plastic of the swoop. Leaving all the factory cuts open and unrestricted.

Another heat related change was the addition of 4 oz Redline Water Wetter. Best estimate - 10 degree drop in water temp. Fan kicks on later now than it ever has. I have an indicator that tells me any time the fan is running.

Seat crack heat. Using double sided tape I placed 2 custom cut four inch pieces of soft foam pipe wrap(think air conditioning foam wrap). Two pieces were used because of the left right panel junction. Exactally how deep to place them so they make proper contact when the seat is lowered requires a deliberate approach, or the foam will tear. Properly done, it works perfectly.

Last, was the addition of JT's air filter(or the removal of a lot of plastic). You've likely read all about his filter system.

That's how I slayed the dragon. If anyone else is Interested and would like to see what and how? Perhaps finless and I can get together and video it. I, would not have a clue how to do that, and don't care to learn.

My "Webroot Secure Anywhere" computer protection strongly advises me not to go to that site as I would stand a very good chance of malicious software coming in.

A pity because I know its owner is a member here & maybe he is not aware of it.

Do you have any more info on this? First I've heard of it.

I would be definitely interested in pictures of the custom crafted flow directors to divert the airflow to the upper vent. My 2013 RT-Ltd heat issues are only with the right foot. I don't have any gas smell, boiling gas or a hot seat. I've got 12,000 miles on my Spyder so if those issues were there, they would be noticed by now.
