There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Hello looking for some feedback from those who own a 2014 Spyder. What are your thoughts on a manual vs semiautomatic? How do they handle? What are your likes and dislikes. I ride a Harley trike how would the handling be different with two fronts wheels vs the two wheels in the back.
Thank you Jo

With the 1330 engine; the transmission choice is more for person preference, than it ever was in the past. There are virtually no differences in how you'd ride the bike with one or the other. In past years,; you had to keep your rpm levels up over 3500 rpm or so, with the "ESSIES" :D
Handling; It's at least on a par with my 2010's RonBar and Elka'd-out front end...
Everything that i liked about my 2010, I like even more with my 2014.
The stuff on my 2010 that I didn't like; they fixed! :2thumbs:
Dislikes on the 2014... they did away with the frunk release button; that's it!

Many will come on with some good ideas. First and foremost, a test ride should be in order. Our likes and dislikes may not necessarily yours. Only you can determine what is right for you.

I have owned four and soon #five Spyders. See signature if you want details.

:ani29:: Manual vs. Semi-auto: Have had one manual and four semi auto. I like the ease of not having to shift with the foot, drove two wheelers for over forty years, and do not miss the manual tranny at all. You will pay about $1,500 more for the semi auto, and they are a little more complicated to work on. Reliability wise, there is not much difference.

:ani29:: Handling: They do handle different from two wheels. No leaning, no counter steering, etc. There is a learning curve, depending how entrenched you are in two wheels. For me, it took almost 1500 miles before I felt I "got it."

:ani29:: Likes/Dislikes: I like em. Have no gripes that I would call dislikes.

The think the best advice would be to go to your local dealer and take one for a rip.
You might want to bring your wallet! :roflblack:

Gotta say..!!

a test ryde will answer all your questions. Manual or auto is a personal choice. Some people can't walk and chew gum at the same time so auto is the way to go..:roflblack::roflblack: but I like manual myself. Then there are a lot of threads about the 2014 you just need to search them...

I am a noobie on the Spyder with only 220 miles on it. I am enjoying the learning curve. It's like when I first learned to ride motorcycles back in the 60's.

When I decided I had to go to a trike it was for safety. My wife is a rider also but always feared wet pavement after she went down years ago. With our decision to ride more and further distances it became a necessity to get 3 wheels (along with some old age disabilities).

The decision for manual or the "auto", for me, came about for ease. No real reason to NOT to go auto with this option being available.

This machine rocks! The ONLY bad thing is.....getting away from the constant curious people. I now know how much of a PIA I was when I questioned owners. LOL. (I like to talk about the machine but not when I am at gas stations. I am ONLY there to get gas and then continue riding.) :roflblack:

Mmmmmmm, manual or automatic?

YES! :ohyea:

I just bought one last night

I picked up my new Spyder last night.

I went for a spin along the beach this morning. Got to work an hour late. OOPS

I really really like the trike. It is awesome.

One thing to note, two wheel up front instead of behind you.... Steering is a little different but it has better stability.

Like everyone has said. Go to the dealer and drive one.

I prefer manual myself. Having ridden motorcycles for at least 200,000 miles I tried to do the electric thing but it doesn't feel right. Now handling? When you go into a corner on the trike all of the weight is shifting to the front single wheel , as you brake. Now start the turn and the body rolls a bit to the outside so you have to be really careful because the inside rear tire can lift. Any child who has a tricycle can tell you about tipping forward to the side, easy to do. Same senario with the Spyder, as the weight shifts forward it goes to both front wheels. So now you have tons more stabiliy plus a larger contact patch of rubber to pavement to pull the front around. Now i can go thru corners faster and smoother than a traditional trike. Add the stability system, triple ABS brakes, traction control and the Spyder keeps you from being stupid. I haven't yet had a two wheeler keep up in the corners. I have even nailed stones in a curve and have the rear step out and the computer put me straight again. I am on my second Spyder now and can't waitto see what they have when I am ready for a new one. The 2014 is leaps ahead of the 2010 I had. Test ride one. Throw a passenger on the back, and remember, another 85 pounds of luggage will fit inside the RT. Lots of room for travel stuff....

2014 Spyder RTS

I received my new 2014 Cognac semiautomic Spyder today. Only got to ride it 23 miles before heavy rain came-the rest of the week looks like rain also here in New Hampshire. :banghead:

I went to Souhegan Valley Motorsports to do demo ride on the RT Spyder. I met a nice lady ride there. I can't remember her first name but she has a handle that she goes by snow Spyder, thank you for taking the time to talk to me about your riding experience on the Spyder, you calmed my nerves. Your husband Rick was very helpful in explaining all the gadgets on the Spyder. I was lucky enough to ride it twice. :-) the first time i was nervous and had a problem finding the break lol, but I didn't hit Rick. It was a great experience I was surprise how smooth it was i the turns and how it shifts down by itself. I drove the semi automatic. The heated grips are awesome, the seat was comfortable. It takes some getting use to, was glad that I had a second chance to ride it again, thoroughly enjoyed the test ride.
