• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Has anyone had a Spyder stolen?

Curious - with the programmed keys - is it possible to steal a Spyder?

Just curious if anyone knows of an incident where a Spyder was stolen where the thief did not have access to a key? Do you know of any incident where a Spyder was stolen at all?

Reason I ask - it seems the 2014 require the dealer to provide extra keys (at additional cost) if you want more then 2 keys.

With my 2012, I had 2 more keys made (cloned) inexpensively. Curious about the key change and why it might have been made....

Yes. There have been incidents of Spyders being purloined. One just a few months ago. I think it was in Ohio. There was another stolen from a trailer a few years back after an owners event. If I'm going to park in an area I feel is not real safe for my Spyder, I lock the steering and set the brake. That way it might slow someone down if they want to take my Spyder. Thing is, if they really want it, they'll find a way to get it. As far as extra keys, most dealers charge for them. I don't think there's any difference between keys made for one year to another.

We leave the key in the spyder .. and keep hoping.... but I don't think they can figure out how to start it...:ohyea:

Hoping for a new one  I assume? I am taking a HD cable to run though wheels - should slow them down.

Professional thieves don't start anything anymore to steal. Its all about the flatbed, tow truck or enclosed trailer...

Just a note..!!

you can have keys made and save a bundle. If by chance the 2014 have a new feature that the key guys don't have they will tomorrow...:roflblack: I have cloned my key and know many who have as well. Cost with key runs $35.00 but less if you order you blanks online...

The other question would be how many stolen roadsters were never recovered. Those I know of were and these are not easy nor worth parting out..:dontknow:

Yes the 2014s are different. They have a new chip with a rolling code technology. Cloning still can be done but a new blank needs to be found and the Spyder has to be available for part of the cloning process.

If a thief wants anything, they are going to take it regardless. The :spyder2: may present some additional deterents with the e-brake, steering lock, and mode button--but, it can still be cabled up and pulled onto a flatbed, etc.

I did leave a key in one :spyder2: overnight once. Parked front row, hotel parking lot, Fairbanks AK. It was still there in the morning. Had a fun hour, trying to find the key in the hotel room though. :roflblack::roflblack:
