after market hitch installed by the dealer..he wasnt happy but moving on...when i get the trailer ( non brp) how difficult is the wiring to do.... just to install the hitch was 220 bucks ...I asked if they had a wire harness available and they said brp doesnt sell the wire harness seperate...only difference tween the two hitches is the mud flap and the spyder logo..any info on a universal hook up would be greatly appreciated

WOW, $220 to install? Kinda steep if you ask me. :(:gaah:

After market hitch ?

Were did you get if and the name of the hitch? Call some other dealers to see if they have one to sell. Thanks in advance.:yes:

Hitch and wiring

Went through the same issue with mine. Finally bought a BRP hitch and wire combo. Took about 2 hours to do the wiring. Hitch is a 10 minute job to install or remove. Others posted information on wire set-up non-BRP. Scotty is your best source for this information. Should be some posts detailing the installation. Good luck.

Use of any other hitch besides the BRP voids the vehicle factory warranty. RT -622 trailer and accessories. PP 72 Can Am Spyder parts and accessories catalog. Note: the key word here is the "vehicle". Why spend $25-30,000 for the vehicle and then try to cheapen it up by putting substandard accessories on it. There is a difference in the way they mount. Factory uses axle and after market bolts to the frame. for $150 more you could have had the real thing plus the square four plug with plug in module. (no splicing)

For $34 dollars more you could convert trailer pig tail (5-6 foot long) and simply plug and play. Run pigtail through trailer hitch (inside) and plug into trailer harness 18-24" back from the front of the trailer, underneath. But then again I see you are buying a different trailer than the RT-622. I would assume to save more money. For those of you out there considering a trailer other than RT-622 (aftermarket) how much money do you save? How much grief do you save? Are those splices in a harsh environment going to last forever. When you go in for warranty work without a factory hitch how much of the problem is BRP going to deny because of the aftermarket hitch.

These are things we need to at least consider before making a choice.

Reasonably Priced?

Not trying to "cheapen" my ride by any means just extend my enjoyment for a reasonable cost. The RT-622 is nice but if column A is my Spyder at $25K to $30K with all the technology, motor, sensors, computer, etc and column B is the RT-622 at $6k for trailer, hitch, and harness (basically a fiberglass tub with wheels and a couple of LEDs) BRP has one hell of a markup. Once the mold is made manufacturing costs are not that high. When I pull the trigger it will be for a bit more practical solution... unless I decide to start printing money like the government.

Traded in a 2011 RT-S for a 2014 RT-S and kept the trailer hitch, dealer wired the bike with a BRP trailer wire module and I will cut the plug off my Aluma trailer and wire in a square 4 pin (thanks Scotty). BRP does sell the trailer module separately.

practical is what i am looking for ..ive been in the market for trailer and hitch for the past year and they just arent out there at a reasonable price. Escalade makes a quality trailer..the only difference with the hitch is the mudflap and logo...i went as far as refinance with current load and add a Rt 622 and was told no ...im comfortable with being reasonable at this time

being in the market for a trailer for few years i exhuasted my options looking for a used RT622 there simply isnt one for sale in my area ...this hitch is mounted to the axel similar to the BRP model...only difference is mud flap and logo. done the home work before i proceeded...6k is alot to put into a trailer that doesnt fit what i need it to do...Escalade makes a quality trailer at the size i need ..i wonder why a hitch would void a warranty but other non BRP 'farkle' items dont... any way thanks for your infomation

the trailer store on line ...was on Ebay ....talked to folks who had both styles of hitches and like i said Identical except for the logo and mud flap...been looking for over a year for a used hitch and trailer and they just arent out there...we have waited and put off enough trips and decided to look else where that was within our budget ...my only delay now is the electrical hook up for the lights on the trailer...im sure im in for another bill to get that hooked up too...

Trailer

I just ought a used trailer today and I think i got a good deal. Pulled it home with my truck. (LOL) Trailer is blue and :spyder2: is white.
Since I don't want to void any warrenty's I am going to "bite the bullet"
and get BRP hitch. Found a place that will install it for $165. All I have to do now is save up the coins.

Save the installation cost, you can do it yourself. I had he same thought but after the hitch came and I read the instructions (5 times) it only took a couple of hours to install. You do however need a torque wrench to tighten the bolt down to 45 ft. lbs.

I bought a hitch also that was not made by Can Am , I am not going to install it because it says in the parts catalog any hitch installed that is not from Can Am will void your motorcycle warranty.

HF cargo carrier

I bought a used hitch off here last summer, hadn't had the scratch for a trailer yet, but admired what another SL in Canada did making a carrier to hang off the hitch. After he emailed instructions to make one, i was looking into getting the materials to make one myself, and a neighbor pointed out Harbor Freight has an aluminum cargo carrier to put on a hitch probably for less than materials would run to make one like his, around $100. They finally had one in stock today, once i get my hitch put on will report back with pics.

$6k - Wow! I also would not do that. Luckily I only had to pay $4,500 for a new RT622, hitch, harness, and installed.
