Installing fog lights on plain RT

Have you used that one, or seen one? I bought a switch from a local electronics supplier to use for a hood switch. It is a Carling brand switch, the same brand and size as the OEM with similar rocker. There is a different configuration on the connector from the OEM switch, and the clips that hold it in the hole aren't the same. But I made it work, so yes, there are alternatives to the OEM switch but they very well may not be simple plug and play.

For the fog light, I say buy the OEM switch. The price is OK and the fit is perfect.

You would have to ring out the plug and the connection but it should not be difficult
Not necessary. Buy the OEM switch and it plugs right in. The connector is there already in the center switch cluster. And the fog light connectors are easy to find and connect to. Of my electrical mods the fog lights were probably the easiest, with GPS connector being a close second.

Your headlights are automatically lit all of the time, and the control switch is over on the left grip...
Fog lights get their power from the headlight circuit but are turned on/off by a switch in the center cluster. Non US/Canada bikes use the lower lights for low beam. US/Canada use that space for fog lights. The connector at the light has two wires, one for European low beam, one for American fog light. The fog light circuit is the one connected to the center cluster switch.

I found a kit for $350 from a dealer so I am going in that direction. Thanks everyone for your help. $350 is more than I wanted to pay but a lot less than $514 msrp.
I say reconsider that decision. Why? Because in my opinion even $350 is a lot of money for dated technology, i.e., incandescent bulbs, especially if what you really want are daytime running lights. If they were LED then yeah, go for it to save on installation hassle and to have the OEM look.

Bulbs are easy to change and it is as much for looks as function speaking of LED

Interesting. LEDs are advancing tremendously. Any idea how the beam pattern would compare to OEM? How much brighter, I wonder. Now if BRP would have had something like that available in the fog light I would have been more tempted to consider them, for like you said, the looks.

The lights I used blend in quite well with the bike, IMO. Naturally, or I wouldn't have used them! My priority is visibility, cost, looks. I want the guy coming toward me on the highway, or looking to turn onto the highway, to know I'm there!

Actually that price is a good deal for the fog light kit. The light do work really well with the bulbs that are supplied. Your only concern would be if the kit is old stock and the switch lights up blue instead of orange but if that's the case just order the orange switch and sell the blue one.

You've got one of them too?
(I didn't mean the gator!)

Uh huh and this time it is better to ask forgiveness than permission because I know what the answer would have been.:lecturef_smilie:Besides I "saved" money on the deal.

Lucky you...
That NEVER works for me... In fact; it's a bit like...

I went and bought her a $300 disappearing screen storm door for our front door that she left the add on the table last week and had it 90% installed before she got up. I also got her bird seed, suet and a Gold Finch bag. She was VERY happy. I almost let the cat out of the bag and did tell my neighbor who helped me with the door why I was doing it. When I get the other 10% of the door done it will be ....by the way time. Hopefully I have used enough butter to avoid the sting.

Good luck; brother!
If you need a place to hide out for a while; come North :2thumbs:
:yikes: I am allergic to white fungus. I will be spending a week at the Manhattan club near Central Park in Sept (she wants to see NYC been there done that and was glad to leave) so I can toss that one reminder in if things get sketchy. Gotta have a plan Bob I guess you need to apply more butter.:thumbup:

My lovely wife assisted and the deed is done. All of the nuts were there already all I needed from the kit was the lights and bolts. I had to re arrange my Horns though what a PIA it took over an hour to find a way to fit both in under the light but we (together) figured it out. Gotta love a woman who can wrench and come up with good solutions. All together it took 4 hrs the horn side took 3 of them the other side was slam bam thank you maam. She almost made a mistake though when we finished she said all you need is chrome fins in the nacelles and I said " I can make that happen" there was a quick backtrack to "but I really like the black ones too it makes it unique. Dang I almost had the next farkle... Wait till the Cold Fusion decals get here tomorrow and see what happens then :dontknow:

 And she even helped!! :2thumbs:
Dave, you've got yourself a real "Keeper"!!

(And she was even suggesting more farkles too!

Yes she does but not like her though. She even found out where the 2 extra bolts went near the end of reinstall (headlight cover center). I hate it when you have extra parts left over. :banghead:
