There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Custom Dynamics charges a 20% restocking fee on returns - BEWARE

I placed an almost $800.00 order with Custom Dynamics for new LEDs for my new 2014 RTS - when I placed the order, I accidentally ordered 2 of a single item when I only needed one

I contacted CD of the error and requested an RMA for return 'assuming' I would get the full price back on the item ($99.00)

what I received was an $80.70 refund

I sent CD an email and they told me "All refunds are less our processing fee which is noted on the back of your invoice. It takes time to pull, process and ship an order. It also requires several steps to receive, process and refund a return. We have to cover our time and expense on both ends as a business."

I owned and ran a business for 10 years - those types of /markups/ are normally factored into the selling price of an item because we all know CD did not pay $90 for the part, they did not pay $80 for the part, they did not pay $70 for the part, etc, etc, etc

BUYER BEWARE

There are plenty of other places to purchase similar items at less cost, without having to pay 20% restocking fees, etc, etc, etc

I responded to CD's email giving them my response, and my opinion, and I told them I would be sharing my opinion

thanks for listening to me share my opinion.........

I'm sorry to hear that you learned of this, "The Hard Way"...
Had you looked over any posted lists, for charges such as these?
Sometimes; a bit of homework up front can save headaches later...
(But I'm probably just as guilty for not doing my, "due diligence" at times... :opps:)

wow

I had to return something there a few months back and had 0 trouble doing it, they even paid the return shipping and still gave me the full refund. sorry to hear that.

I had a similar situation at a "brick and mortar" shop. They sell HD, YAMAHA, HONDA. I checked with my closest CanAm dealer and they told me they only do that on special order items, not in stock items.
Some retailers think they are the only ones. They are not

business

kind of makes you think they care about a dollar more than people --I don't think I would bother them with my business :p

What CD did is not at all unusual from what I have seen,

I placed an almost 4800.00 order with Custom Dynamics for new LEDs for my new 2014 RTS - when I placed the order, I accidentally ordered 2 of a single item when I only needed one

I assume you can review your order prior to placement, if not my guess is you will next time. I have always been unclear as to why some think someone else should pay for their mistakes.... I am not being critical of the author of this post, however it's best to chalk it up as a lesson learned, as I too have had many.To the author though I do not agree with the BUYER BEWARE statement.-Thanks.

A 20% restock fee is total BS unless its a special order....period. This is in ANY business.
I can see making you pay the shipping back but a restock fee on a $99 item is a total kick in the nuts, especially when you just dropped $4800

sorry... it was an $800.00, not $4800.... damn, I would be bright and chrome spending that much... point is still the same

yes, its a lesson learned, and its a heads up to buyers.... nothing more, nothing less

You mean you spent almost $800 with them and then they turned around and charged you 20% for returning a double order. :gaah: I'd send the whole order back and tell the to stuff it where the sun don't shine. And I would never do business with them again. nojoke There's always choices and based on this experience I'd chose not to do business with them.

I recently had a similar issue with Custom Dynamics. Caveat Emptor! They were already put on my be-no list over this issues a month ago. There will be-no more business for them from me! I thought I was the only one feeling 20% restock fee is total BS. Usually that is customary in a drop-ship point-of-sale type business, not in a stocking distributor or manufacture as CD claims they are...........oh well, we live and learn.

I own a medical supply company

We have the same policy with a 15 % restocking fee , now with that said. CD should off took the $800.00 you spent into consideration and not charged you any restocking fee , they made more than enough profit . I am confident that you would buy there again. You already know the mistake is yours but that would have made for exceptional customer service . Your only human .

Now if you had only bought that one item of $99.00 to return , that would be where the restocking fee would apply for sure .

Thank you for sharing , I need to buy bunch so LEDs for my sts , guess I won't be shopping there.

restocking fee

I recently made the mistake of ordering online with wallyworld. When I clicked to place the order it appeared nothing happened so after a short pause I clicked again. Guess what now two orders were placed. Try going through the maze to get this corrected. Of course speaking to a real person did not solve the problem as I assumed it would. After delivery of both orders I again attempted to solve the issue over the phone but eventually went to the local store 65 miles away with the extra items. They took them back but since this item was now on sale in the store the sale price was all they would refund. Not sure I will use their online service in the future. Waiting to see if the refund shows up on my credit card.

The absolute best customer service is:

TricLed....a SL site sponsor. Reggy is the best....I truly have never heard a complaint that he hasn't addressed promptly and at inconvenience to himself. This is the only LED place I use and recommend because of his customer service.

Ugh

I use WM.com a lot...fortunately when the goof occurs (mine) I have been able to take receipt (not sure what would have happened if I had not had receipt) and item back to store and they have always given me a full refund. Thanks for the heads up I will be more attentive when placing orders with them in the future. :yikes:

A compassionate vendor would have taken the amount of the order into account and made an exception, IMO. That being said, they did not surprise you with the fee...it was clearly stated on the invoice. They followed their policy and you do not agree to it. They have a right to do business that way...and you have a right to do business elsewhere because of their policy. Make them aware that you will not be shopping there again because of it. If they feel they are losing business that way they may change their ways someday.

Not to be rude, what did you order?

I am sympathetic to your concerns, and agree with you!

tell me about your led and farkling!

maybe discounts at daytona this week!

I purchased the Spyder emblems from CD for the wife's bike. They were pretty much a little more then a decal and not worth the $28. I emailed them about how I thought they were really thin and would cave in where placed on the bike. Their response was 'we've never had anyone else complain about them'. Move ahead to the HMT brake light. A couple of minutes of internet searching found their $239 brake light for $188 with free shipping from another dealer. Guess where I bought the light? So there's always other options although it's nice to support the website's sponsors. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to.
