Getting ready for my coldest ride yet...

I realize there have been a few other riders that have ridden colder than this but today going to work will be my coldest day yet I believe. Temp say 15 degree F. It is nice and sunny but I do not have heated clothing. The only thing I am concerned about is my fingers. We would just drive but Brian and I are on different shifts a few days this week and we only have 1 cage and 2 spyders. He gets out later than I do, so it will probably be even colder at 11:30 pm. Boy is Nevada looking good right now!!

That's cold, Deb! When I ride in at 32 degrees, at about the 15 mile mark, my fingers are getting cold. My ride one way to the office is 27.5 miles.
I have no heated gear, either. For a ride that cold, I wear my Tour Master Polar-Tex Winter Gloves w/liners, Can-Am jacket w/liner, Scorpion EXO overpants w/liner, thermal socks, balaclava, and of course, my HJC Sy-Max II Modular Helmet.

I won't ride when it's any colder than that. And, I only do that when I know it's going to warm up through the day. I have a truck. :)

That's cold. I read somewhere that for every ten miles per hour you are running, the wind chil factor drops the temp by 5 degrees - I think was the number. Anyway that's cold. :yikes:

Don't be fooled about northern Nevada Deb.... it snows there too!!! Just not as bad. Hope you had/have a safe ride!! I'm freezing just thinking about it. Brr!!!

yeah.... if I was to go west again, it would be Arizona. Around the Tucson area would be just fine. I spent 7 years there in the 70s. Yeah... it does get hot. But, you just plan your day around it; as some would say. :D

Our brother-in-law, who lives there, told us that too. He said the main difference is that they get 7 solid months of warmth and 5 months of cool / cold with a little fluctuation either way. Here, its about the opposite, 5 solid months of warmth and 7 months of cool / cold (especially this year). When I was talking with him on the phone Saturday night, his example was "its only 41 degrees here right now and we still have some snow on the ground". At that time it was in the 20's in Michigan with another 5 inches of snow that day.

Brrrr! Way too cold to be riding. My fingers freeze when I ride and its below 40 outside. I am shopping for heated gloves but haven't decided which ones to get just yet. I have a good thermal outfit that keeps me warm.. just my fingers that get cold.

I give you and BJT alot of credit haven't even looked at mine in Months covered up trickiling have to fire up Glide this week to get it to my wrench for some cam work :spyder:

I LOVE Arizona!! :2thumbs:

Tuscon would be good, I am also looking at the Lake Havasu area. Phoenix is too hot and Flagstaff is a bit cold. The hubby and I are considering a move to Arizona assuming we can ever get out of our house in California. We owe about $150K more than it's worth right now.

Well, if I used your calculator right, on the highway at 70mph i got to a -13 F temp with the wind chill. The strange thing is, it didn't feel too bad. I was dressed pretty warm. I have my thermosuit and glove liners and good wool socks and I stayed pretty comfortable.

Glad to hear you were able to get your Spyder fix and stay warm.

Hey SpyderGirl,
I'm not fooled, I am aware of the weather in Nevada. I just know the winter's aren't quite as cold and there isn't as much snow down from the mountains for nearly as long. Longer, warmer riding season is very appealing. If we get out that way, we will definitely have to meet in the middle.

I figured you liked AZ. :) I've seen your photos when you were there on the Spyder with the Cortech bags.

My parents live in Avondale. They love it. Tucson, like Phoenix, has grown so much since I lived there in the 70s! But, I would love to retire there.

But, I must say..... for Spyder riding, the mid-south is pretty sweet! Of course, living out in the country helps. You needn't go far for fantastic riding. Actually, right out my door!

Good for you Deb! You're a Road Warrior.

Fortunately, it won't be too long now before we have more reasonable riding weather. This has been a long, snowy winter. :(
