I had a conversation with a Rep from BRP today. I had sent them 3 documents regarding issues with my 2013 RT. One of which was a post on this forum from the dealer I bought my Spyder recommending that the exhaust headers be wrapped with heat tape. Response was, "take your vehicle to the dealer, have the work done that you deem necessary, and then BRP will decide whether or not to pay for it". Again, dodging the issues. BRP wants me to pay for remediation of all issues first, then they will contact the dealer, and "work it out with them" . Another way of dodging the issues. I hope that all 2013 RT LTD owners out there make out better than I have. Again, I would urge all to file a complaint with NHTSA if you want to put pressure on BRP. There is strength in numbers. We have to help each other if we want our Spyders to be safe and dependable. Log on to

File your complaints here. If you want to get your Spyder rideable, dependable and safe, let NHTSA know. Otherwise, you will only get a runaround and empty promises from BRP. They could care less about us. They have our money, and no incentive to address issues with our machines. We need to put pressure on BRP and let them know that we are serious about informing them about the issues with our machines. BRP trolls this forum, and we let them know that we mean business.

Class Action works for me. My wife is making my life miserable as I promised her that this would be the touring bike that we have wanted for a long time. Now, she will not ride any distance without fear of a catastrophic failure that will strand us. Regretfully, I have to agree.

However, I was assured (ha ha) by the person that I spoke to at BRP that he was empowered to make decisions ONLY after I took my Spyder to the dealer, had the work done, and THEN seek reimbursement from BRP for the work performed. Doesn't exactly instill a lot of confidence. I feel like a fish on a hook being played out until I have nothing left. Makes me think that I will have to become a Can-Am tech and deal with all of my issues in my garage. Hope other folks hAVE BETTER LUCK THAN i HAVE HAD.

I took it upon myself to wrap the exhaust pipes not too costly doing it myself but paying a dealer for this would be big bucks! I completely removed the pipes to get the best job. This does indeed help but to what degree is unclear for me because I did it last fall and it was already getting cold. There is a huge drop in engine noise though so that alone is worth it. Currently I'm waiting for decent weather to get the spyder in for the latest recall to see if that is going to help with the heat.

What kind of reliability issues are you having?? I have only had some random stalling at traffic lights and some weird surging but I'm hoping the recall fixes those issues as well as helping with the heat. My wife also has fears but not leaving us stranded but catching fire! We both have noticed a smell of burning plastic but the dealer can find nothing??

Where did you come up with that info on the ( NHTSA SB-420220413 failed water pump seal ) I can find nothing about that on the NHTSA site? I think that the SB-420220413 is the original recall for the heat melting parts? My 2013 is going in Friday for the 2013-9 BRP campaign.

I took by bike to my dealer in Staten Island and all the work was taking care by BRP, pm me if you want my dealers number they will make sure you pay $0..
