Was going to purchase a ST Limited

Good to hear, Ronbo!

MISSING A LOT OF FUN!! I've got a 2013 rt limited. No problems. Lots of great rides with terrific rides with great people!

Just bought a 2013 ST LTD, with a super offer from Can-Am here in Germany. Got 3000 Euro off the new trike, and an extended warranty to 4-years! The forums here in Germany are full of praise and joy with this Spyder model. Hope that I have good luck with mine. Have already planned to customize with a nice Lightning 41 wrap on the pearl white beauty, and some cool vent covers all around. And from Lamonster I've ordered the IPS and Spyder decals front and back and for the safety message board too. And I've got the LED spoke lights in red on the way too. Anyone use them? Am off to my first Can-Am SpyderRiders Day in the Altmuehltal from 7-8 June, and really looking forward to meeting other ST LTD drivers to compare notes. Being a retired US soldier/civil servant here is different but I'm at home in Bavaria, and the new Spyder is going to make my day(s) in the summer months! Best from Bavaria! Rick (Bavarianami)

Good for you Bavarinami! I'm jealous, your 4 year warranty. My bike has been a good one so far, (fingers crossed)! So hopefully I won't need the 2 extra years. Can't wait til the weather warms up! Drive safely!

Pick any machine...

and you'll find people who are having problems and not happy with them. There simply are no guarantees.

One thing is for sure, there are some GREAT deals on 2013's out there. And there are a great number of very happy 2013 owners.

Yes, there have been more issues with the 2013's than anyone would have liked. But problems are always magnified on any forum environment.

If I wanted a great deal on a new Spyder, I would look hard at a 2013. I don't think you're ever going to see deals like this in the future.

my 2009 RS SE5 with over 38,000 miles has had ZERO issues...
people generally don't talk about 'good' things... seems like only 'negative' issues are posted... the reason is, those with the problems, are asking for help.... most, not all, i'd say, 85% of SPYD3R have had relatively few issues... those that are BIG issues, are usually advertised here to the MAX....

so what you wish, it's your decision, but don't base it on just the things you read here... speak with others who own SPYD3Rs and talk with the Service Manager at the various dealers...

good luck....

Sorry, Magnesium

Like 900Dave...I'm looking at buying my first Spyder this year....was waiting to see if the changes on the 14's would steer me that direction. After reading other post...the only change is adding the extra air scoop on the side panels. I figure I could save some serious cash and add the side panels myself per 'quickster47' post. The only reason I would buy a 2014 ST-L would be for the new Cognaq color....it looks awesome! Will probably just get a 2013 ST-L in the Pure Magnesium Metallic. Hopefully by April I will pull the trigger...jonesing real bad to get one!

Sorry, the 2013 ST Limited comes in only Pearl White or Black Current. If you want Magnesium, it will have to be a ST S or reg ST or a 2014 model.

love my spyder

:DI love my 2012 Rt se5.....don't believe everything you read on internet blogs , go test ride one yourself ! and BELIEVE...

Only the problems get reported

To me the st limited is a great looking machine. Had my heart set on getting one. After researching, its one problem after another. Can Am have made changes on the 2014 models. I really doubt they have fixed all the problems. Time will tell. I think I'm going to back away and forget making the purchase. Good luck to those of you going through this experience. With heat problems and what I have read about can ams customer service, I don't want any part of dealing with these issues.

I own a 2013 ST-Limited. I too was concerned about the problems reported but my desire for this unique machine won out. Some food for thought. More often then not, especially with the internet, it often is only the "complaints and problems" that get brought to light. The folks that are motoring along with no problems don't have as much to say.

Think about it again, the more miles, the more smiles !! I am 3k miles in with no problems. And I did most of my riding in some very warm weather.

I love mine 2013 st spyder limited

We have a 2013 st spyder limited. Had the recall work done. Have had really no problems other than my belt guard came off and have not had that replaced as of yet. Our dealer hear in Lexington,Ky is pretty good to deal with so far. Really enjoy mine.

My 2013 ST-S (well not quite mine yet!) is still at the dealer 450 miles away whilst they figure out how to do the adaptations, so how do you think I feel seeing this thread? Well, pre crippledom, I rode Buells so I feel quite at home already:yes:
I do need to get a list of what I need the dealer to sort (recalls, issues etc.) before they drive 450 miles to deliver it as popping back in to sort small issues isn't exactly on!

Got the good deal on my 2013 ST LTD!

Hey. Not so loud.

This is my very first bike since I had a scooter at 15! Two friends with a BMW and a Yamaha have been after me for years to get a motorcycle. At 69 I wasn't up for going back to the classroom for a motorcycle license, which costs over 2000 Euro here in Bavaria. So they put me on to Can-Am. I was lucky that we have a local dealer (there are very few here in Germany). He had a beautiful pearl white ST LTD sitting there and had just put the price down 3000 Euro on a special deal from Can-Am! I fell in love immediately with the bike/trike, and came back the next day and bought it off the floor. It is now sitting in my garage waiting for 1 March to roll around, as I have a seasonal registration which runs until 31 October. The ST L has it all, and I'm adding some of Pete's PowerSportWraps, a mono rear seat cover, shortee antennae, dash/windschield pouch, nice mesh-metal covers for the intakes, from Lamonster his spider decals and an IPS, and have purchased a beautiful glossy white Schuberth C3 helmet with their SRC Bluetooth system so I can hear my Garmin 660 give me voice directions. Already have the US and Bavarian flags on the helmet and will add them to my ST L too. I going to my first SpyderRidersDay meeting in the Altmuehltal, about a 2-hour drive from home, from 7-8 June and really looking forward to meeting other Spyder riders. Another Bavarian dealer is putting me in contact with a retired Marine who drives an RT too. Off this weekend to the big show in Munich, the IMOT. Hope to see some Can-Am folks there and meet some new friends. I may just buy a helmetCAM so I can record some of my tours around Bavaria and Thuringen. Next year I'm planning a two-week tour of Ireland with my Yamaha buddy. Will share my pic with ya'll down the road!
Best from Bavaria! Rick/Bavarianami

Oh Well

Ill be the one to decide when its time to move on buddy. Will still check in to see how the 2014 models perform. Just because I dont own a syder doesnt mean I wont be visiting sites to keep up with the times. By the way seems every forum has a smart @$$ like you to make stupid comments. In the future keep your comments to yourself that would be directed towards me. I know a couple of spyder owners that are very disappointed with there purchase. Im sure there are more in the same boat. Well its beer thirty. You folks have a great weekend.
Guess he decided to move on after all.

I purchased a used Spyder and had an issue with it. Brought it to a dealer and they fixed. Actually had the problem diagnosed on this forum (this forum is AWESOME for that) and told the mechanic what he thought it was.

The thing that everyone has said is true. The people that have had issues will come on the board and discuss their issues here. The money that can be spent on these vehicles is HUGE and getting one that does not work properly can be a real disappointment. But you must look at it this way - the Spyder is a machine and machines eventually break down, or need preventative maintenance to keep them going without a breakdown. Manufacturers are always trying to improve their products - and this is what BRP is trying to do with their Spyders.

If you are not willing to take a chance on buying a Spyder - you need to stay away from a dealer that will offer you a ryde, cause if you ryde one, you will be HOOKED. Cause it happened to me and my wife said yes to the used Spyder. :shemademe_smilie:

Was going tp purchase

If you do not want a Spyder, try looking at the Honda Reversed Wing Trike or TricWing.com.

You may like that, and Honda has a go rep.

Good luck

Really

 Well lets see what comes next, if everyone bases there decision on only a little negative press what would we have.

I don't have a ST but love my RSS, and so far problem free, except the problem of the rear tire spinning a little too easy :2thumbs:

14's maybe nice but no green so no deal.

I wish I would have never purchased the 2013 ST....my 2009 RS was a much better bike

I love my 2013 ST but I understand totally where you're coming from. :banghead: I've had a few problems and even have an open case on the heat but nothing like you've experienced. I think you got a real lemon.:yikes:

I owned a Spyder from 2009 until last October - 1st was an RS SM5, which was fun, but never close to comfortable (for me). 2nd was an RT S SE5, which was reliable as a brick, but expensive to maintain, and too far from a decent dealer for my needs. Both bikes suffered from the early DPS issues, and both were fixed by BRP. Combined, I put over 20,000 miles on these bikes, and was never left stranded - something one of my Valks actually did (an electrical failure).

I have owned a lot of different bikes, and I would rate the Spyder in the upper 40% of all of them. It is not the most comfortable road bike I've owned - that honor goes to the K1200LT. However, it is the BEST bike in traffic, decent on the RARE occasions I was forced to ride in the rain (both the Goldwing and K12 kept me drier, but the Spyder was safer - more stable), stable on gravel (but easily sucks rocks into the belt - even with the rock guard installed), and more acceptable to my SO for rides....

I believe my experiences mirror that of many others. You can always find the niggly bits with any toy - (IE: the K12 was TALL and HEAVY in a parking lot environment). (Yes, toy - Like my airplane, I would never use any bike for a primary source of transportation - just me & MHO)

My reasons for "moving on" had nothing to do with problems with the Spyder - I'm an old guy, and there are still a lot of bikes I haven't ridden yet...

Guess he decided to move on after all.
i

Hate to bust your.bubble Captain Crunch. I'm still here. I see you are still here also. What a waste of bandwidth. I really like your caption of a picture of you clapping that I moved on. You sir are a first class a$$ h@le. I'll still be checking in from time to time..
