New mapping for 2013 spyders

Guys

Wake up and smell the exhaust fumes for Pete's sake. If it turns gas and a man or a woman has even touched it, it is going to break or require an adjustment or a replacement at some time during its lifetime of use or abuse.

You all are starting to sound like a bunch of cry babies! The forum is supposed to be friendly and informative. Yes, I had a big bowl of "grumpy flakes this morning." I'm out'ta here!
Well bob... I typed out a LONG response to you... and deleted it..... I just don't think you would understand.. I feel that I have been OVERLY optimistic about getting this bike running RIGHT and have been proactive to make it right.... more than brp has been to this point. I wish you the best of luck
.. if you are really "out'ta here"....... Bye......... but... would be a shame to see ya go over this....

It seemed to vibrate less on the floorboards during the 100mi. ride home. I got 1mpg better too other than that it will take some time to see if the bog on acceleration after a turn is better. Time will tell.....

The only vibrations I feel on my Spyder are a little in the grip and and more on the floorboards. Do you think the floorboard vibration was from how the motor ran? At only 1000 miles, I can't believe it's the belt?

From what I have read about your bike issues and how you have handled them, you have a clear head on your shoulders and have handled it much better than I would have. You seem very determined to making it work out for the best , very optimistic.

Actually inspiring to me, this is my first bike and I no inkling of getting rid of it for a very long time, so any issue will have to be dealt with.

Heat Problem Fix or Not???

The big issue with the 2013 RT is the heat issue and many of us on this forum are waiting to see if the remapping has any effect on it. I suspect it might help somewhat but won't eliminate the heat entirely as this seems more to do with rearranging and re-routing several things under the bodywork to make the V-twin fit into the ACE frame. At least that's my observation of it.

There are some natural vibrations in the engine itself, that's why it has a counter balance shaft. Mine has some weird vibes at certain speeds and I assume that's the belt? I comes and goes so it would seem logical to be the belt setting up harmonics. I thought about getting the tensioner but have not done so yet. However nothing shakes like a Harley, at least my Spyder has not dropped any parts off yet....

Yeah Id hate to buy a tensioner w only 1000 miles on the bike and find it doesn't help anything.

My 2013 RT didn't need the new mapping

I drove to Lexington Motorsports in KY this morning and when they pulled up my VIN they stated that the ECM update did not apply to my machine however the fuse box portion did. I would have been upset except it was the first time I could drive since December and it was a nice day to get out.

Given that I haven't felt that I have had any heat issues other than the normal engine heat it sounds as if BRP identified something however it is not clear to me what that something was just yet.

My spyder was produced in Jan 2013 just to see if any produced earlier or later has the issue.

That is a new one I thought it was ALL 2013's. What about the fuse box did they do that? You can always double check by calling BRP with your VIN 888.272.9222

Something is not right there? My 2013 RTS was built in april of 13 and mine qualifies for the update, whats up with that? I have a copy of the service bulletin and there are no VIN breaks on which bikes get the update, the bulletin says "ALL". That's weird why yours would not need the ECM update? Maybe that's why you don't have the heat issues??

Something is wrong here. The bulletin says that the software update applies to ALL 2013 RTs. Ours were built June and Aug 2013 and both of them got the updates.

I would certainly look at what they told you with a jaundiced eye.

The bulletin talks about a specific number that pertains to the ECM (BRP assembly number xxxxxxxxx) and the number must be....
420666631
420666636
420666641
420666646
One of these numbers AFTER the ECM update is performed. I have a copy of my last BUDS report taken 9/26/13 and my BRP assembly number is 420666477 so clearly mine is going to get the update. I always ask for a BUDS report to keep in my folder after all repairs and i'll get one after the update to make sure one of the numbers listed is installed.

The check-in technician brought up my VIN on what I am assuming is the BRP site/system and it showed that it needed the FUSE BOXES, I declined fixing them today and will get them fixed when I drop it off in a couple of weeks for a hitch to be installed.

He stated that in the past that the campaigns would appear when they brought it up and that it was his understanding that not all VINs were affected, I explained that I had the understanding that it was all 2013 ST/RT models. Given that I haven't had any known issues - I will wait a little and will ask for a BUDS print when it is in, I am assuming they always hook it up when it is in.

I will get my VIN and call BRP and ask to confirm - I am hoping that Lexington has it right, otherwise I have lost a little confidence in them.

I called BRP, the lady was very nice and answered all of my questions. She stated that my VIN is indeed affected by this campaign 2013-9 and that both 0015 and 0016 applies.

According to the lady at BRP, it does not require being hooked up to BUDS to see that the ECM update applies, that it is in the Knowledge Center which is what she was looking at. She said there is a lot of information regarding this update on the Knowledge Center, not that I have any clue if she is right or wrong.

I will have to chalk this up to Lexiginton Motorsports being in a total disarray given their construction however it does lower my confidence in the check-in people.

I will see if I can get a before and after BUDS report.

had fuse box bulletin done today

took my 3013 RT LTD. in today and had the service bulletin done. They advised me that buds was up to date and it was not a re mapping. I haven't had any problems with my spyder so i guess it is not the heat fix we had hoped for.

The only way your ECM was up to date was IF they did the update. The bulletin plainly states it addresses several issues including running hot complaints. See "B" under problems and solutions.

This kind of feedback from people getting this done is either really really bad or we are completely missing something?? :dontknow:
I wonder if some dealers are just not doing it or don't even understand what is going on. Mine is going Friday and I have my "A" game in place and I'm going to make sure mine gets done and I have the paperwork to check that it has.

Magdave, you got yours updated didn't you?

My bike is done, but the weather is not cooperating with me so that I can take by bike for a ride, I hope that I can give you my feedback regarding if is working or not, but the good test will be when it gets hot and humid.

Yessir I haven't ridden enough to evaluate it today has been the first warmer day and it is very windy. Not a big fan of riding a RT in high winds.:dontknow:
