Poker Run 3/7/09

To all Northwest Florida and South Alabama :spyder: Ryders:


I know we are planning a run to the Car and bike show in Mobile for Saturday March 7, 09. This is some information about a Poker Run the morning of the 7th of March to Benefit a very worthy cause.

The run is sponsored by H&D Cycles @ 33019 US Hwy 98 in Lillian, AL

It will start at 9 AM and the last bike out is at 11 AM - Cash payout for the best hand. Donation is $20.00 per entry.

This benefits HONOR FLIGHT SOUTH ALABAMA. For those of you who don't know about Honor Flight - it is a program that flys WW II and Korean War Veterans (at no cost to the veteran) to Washington D.C. to spend a day viewing the Memorials there. Most of the Veterans have never or willnever be able to see these Memorials ans it is a wasy of giving back to a group of HEROES that help to ensure the fredom of our nation.

We have a group of riders at the VA (Employees) that are planning to attend to help raise money for this worthy program. This program recieves no assistance except thru donations and sponsored events like these. I have had the pleaseure of meeting the man responsible for the decvelopment of this great program and he too a VET is performing a great service to our Heroes.

I thought that we could possibly do the Poker Run prior to the ride to Mobile -- can I get some feedback from my fellow :spyder: Ryders.

Yes it is from H & D they are sponsoring it and that is the meeting place.

Not sure both can be done on the same weekend. I already committed to Kalavera for the run to Mobile so I will see how things develop.

I could give Iktome a quick wash but what class would we enter? I doubt that any of us have anything yet to compete with the full dressers in street and no way we could beat out the Wingers or others for largest club. :firstplace: So far all I have added are operational and comfort items and haven't even began to decorate the Tryke.:trike:

Guess we could just donate our money and enter as a special interest display only. Maybe we could try for a poster from CanAm or PMS to display with our parked group.:dontknow:

DaVita staff made me leave the Tryke and have Carolyn pick me up Monday. My first standing B/P was 57/38 and was taking forever to come up. Now that my appitite has improved I put an inch back on my waist. In addition to that climbing on and off the Spyder and the New Holland, as well as riding, has added some real red meat back on so we tried to pull fluid I did not have during dialysis. Went back three hours later to ride off into the sunset!

Need to work out a meeting placeand route. For Toni and I a senic and fairly direct route would probably be west on US-90 to AL-59 at Robertsdale flag display. Carolyn and I are just a few miles west of their place. The Post Office parking lot just 1/8 mile east of the intersection would give us room to wait out of traffic. Pensacola people could come out 98 and up the Beach Express, out 90 by our place, or across I-10 and pick us up at the AL-59/I-10 interchange. Any other ideas?

It would probably be best for me to ryde with you as I live north of Hwy 90 and can go thru Seminole and meet you and Toni. That would be fine with me if you guys are okay with that. We could set up a meeting place probably just west of Spanish Fort on the Causeway and ryde thru Downtown Mobile in mass.

Do you guys have any problems with the tax man? Up here in Maine poker runs are a huge way for the snowmobile clubs to raise money. But the Nazis in charge actually said that it is a form of gambling and would come after the clubs for hosting unsanctioned gambling. They want their piece of EVERYTHING.
