• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 3rd key?

I brought in the mail today and I had a USPS priority package from my dealer. It contained another key for my Spyder (my 3rd). It also contained another key for my saddle bags (my 4th) and another quick reference guide for the radio. I thought that this had to be a mistake so I went and checked and all the keys work. Any one else get 3 sets keys?

Your ST Limited came from the factory with 2 ignition keys and 4 saddlebag keys. Is it possible that yours was a demo or they planned to use it as a demo and put a set of keys away for safe keeping and cut another ignition key.

Not complaining at all about the extra key. I know they are $$$. I never did call the dealer but I am thinking that one of the dealers misplaced one of the keys (the dealer I purchased from got it from another dealer) and they replaced it. Then a month or so after I purchased the :spyder2: it was found and sent to me. Sounds reasonable right!

If your scenario is correct the key they sent you will not start your Spyder. When programing a new key all keys that you want to work must be put through in the procedure or they will no longer work. So I think it would be a good idea if you have not done so already is to see if it will start, with the new key. Everything will appear normal until you push the start button nothing will happen. Then after a ridiculously long time a message will scroll across the screen "BAD KEY" once.

This makes the most sense. When I purchased my KIA Sorento, they could not find one of the two key sets so they made up a second key and programmed a second key FOB for controlling door locks, etc. About week later, they found the key and FOB. When I went in for the first oil change, they programmed all 3 key sets to work with my KIA Sorento.

You are 100% correct! Just tried it 2 minutes ago and nothing. Then BAD KEY popped up with an orange screen in the background. When I tried it a few days ago I did not try to start it. I just turned it and waited until I had to press the mode button & I shut it off again.
I should still be able to use this key in the future if I ever lose one right? It just has to go through the "procedure".

Your right you can wait until you lose a key but I would take the 3 keys with me the next time you go for regular service and get them all working. It only will take them 5 to 10 minutes to do.

LOL..... I thought I was the only one on Soyderlovers that drove a Kia Sorento. My wife calls it the BIC van.

My local Ace Hardware programs these for less than $5. Only need one OEM and the replacement and it takes about 30 sec.
You might try a couple of places that do keys. They stick in the OEM and the little machine will either say that it "reads" it or not. If it reads, then they stick in the new key and presto!

I have put my key in my vest then put my vest in the frunk because it was so hot TWICE:yikes::hun::banghead:
! I now have a key on my car key ring that will open the trunk and frunk but not start the engine . It has saved my bacon once already. Got it at a key shop and was very cheap. For this genius it was a great investment .

Ride in comfort,

When I decided to get a third key, me dealer said he could not just make the new third key match the original key that I had with me. I had to bring all three keys in. He used a master key in the bike, then programmed all three keys one after the other. If you go to the dealer, take all your keys with you as he will have to re-program them all. I don't know if an aftermarket retailer like ACE can "read" the key and program it or not. My dealer doesn't have a reader and programmed them the way BRP specifies in the shop manual.

i made up a 3rd key

as soon as i read the first post about having one, it's still sitting on my kitchen table duhhhhhh

I assure you, aftermarket retailers do not have to have but one OEM. They read the program on the OEM and then transfer it to the new key. The new keys were cut before the programming. I've done four and they all worked: one for me, one for a friend, two for a forum member in N.Y. These were the keys you buy off Ebay for about $7 or so.
My Can Am service manager rolled his eyes when I showed him my spare and said he wished they had a reader as that was obviously much easier and quicker. :D

New BRP keys have to programed by a BRP dealer. Cloneable key blanks you do not need to get the dealer involved. Just someone with the right equipment.
