Two more days and Ron's Spyder will have been in the shop three weeks. Here's the report of his dealings so far. There will be more to add toady.
http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8565

I had to run to the airport today and it's not far from Alcoa Goodtimes so I thought Ron might want to go with so we could check on his Spyder.

The service manager Ben was out to lunch and there was another guy filling in for him. We asked how it was going with Ron's Spyder and he said it looks like they are waiting on parts from BRP. I asked when are the parts due to arrive? At first he couldn't tell me so I pressed a little harder and told him that we have a trip planned for Bikeweek and if it's going to be much longer we need to pick it up because we could still drive it the way it was.

I also told him I was concerned because I have a friend who just now got his Spyder back from you guys and he dropped it off in the beginning of Nov. for a water pump leak and didn't get it back till Jan. 30. It was just shy of three months. He then went on to blame it on BRP not having the parts they ordered.

I understand that BRP may not have everything in stock all the time but something ain't right about this situation. On the 28th of Jan. they told Ron that all the parts came in except for the parking brake bracket and that they installed the parts and there was still a problem with the power steering and they were waiting on BRP to tell them what to look at next.

Today I asked Ben what parts they replaced and how did they know what parts to order. He said they haven't replaced anything and they did some voltage checks and determined the problem to be the Gear Position Sensor and that they also ordered the magnetic pickup sensor because it could be bad or easily damaged. Now they are saying both these parts were on backorder.

Shortly after they found that the warehouse had over 1000 in stock and they must of just now came off of backorder. They still couldn't tell us if they had shipped yet so I asked if they could go ahead and get me one headed my way because I fall under the same recall. They said no can do and that I would have to bring my Spyder in first before they would order the part, that is unless I wanted to put it on my credit card for now and that would speed up the process of getting the part there. They said they don't stock any parts and they have been told not to order in any new parts. I can understand that but this is a recall part and they won't have to pay for it anyway.

By now I'm starting to get a little ticked off about this whole deal. My guess is they are running such a tight ship that they won't even order the parts needed to fix a customers Spyder untill they have the $150.00 minimum order to get free shipping from BRP. I don't know that for a fact but why else would they say they installed the same parts that they now say were backordered?

This whole deal really bums me out and thank God I found a good dealer (Fun Bike Center) when I had problems with my Spyder in San Diego last year on my trip. I may still be there if I had to use this dealer for my service.

Okay, I'm done venting.

So as the title says, be thankful if you have a good Spyder dealer because they seem to be few and far between. nojoke

P.S. I know of three Spyders that I have directly help sell for these guys and maybe more. I use to carry their cards with me and hand them out when someone asked about a local dealer. I guess I won't be doing that anymore.

I:agree:its so important to have a dealer who is honest and upfront with you. I think it is way to easy for a dealer to pass the blame on to BRP because that will take the heat off themselves from the end customer. Its sad to see these kind of scenarios taking place but this kind of stuff is not uncommon in all the auto industry.

Maybe it is time to start a campaign to show BRP that the dealers are failing in the responsibilities to both the company and the consumer. You think this lack of customer service would be acceptable for Honda or Harley Davidson? I think freekin not! I am fortunate on two counts, a superb Spyder, and an equally superb dearler - Holzhauers in Nashville ILL. I have ordered a couple of accessories, and they remember their Spyder customers by first name. Unlike many people today, I for one have and will again if needbe, make sure that any company that does not do what I payed them to do in the first place hears about the situation - a few carefully worded conversations, a letter or two, then my favorite call to a local govenment voice always seems to get their attention. Speak softly, carry big stick!

I LOVE MY DEALER! He's the best! Sometimes I wonder though if it's not entirely the dealer - I think BRP causes alot of lag time.

the folks at Garganos would dismantle a floor model for me if I needed a part bad enough. (and it has been offered)

 thats great to hear about garganos They treated me good too :2thumbs: weather is keeping me from riding but I got a like 30 miles on my :spyder:cant wait for the good weather :yes:

San Juan Capistrano, California

There can be none better that the guys at Performance Motorsports in San Juan Capistrano, California. Four great guys run it: the manager, saleman, businessman, and Lan in service/mechanics----these guys know how to run an honset, personal business. I got my new SE5 out the door for $16, 000----before buying mine, Chad took me for a 5 mile ride while he followed on his motorcycle--they took me back and showed me how they had preped the Spyder before releasing to me---they did the first service for $200 and gave me the complete check list of services---today at BRP expense, Lan replaced the oil pressure spring in 2 hours---showed me what had been done, and my SE5 shifts perfectly. This place is a calm and efficient organization that has maintained a small, informal behavior....Great job, Guys------What more could you ask for???

Hey Lamonster ... you are usually pretty even keeled on here. I almost never see you blow a gasket. They musta been really dragging their tail on things. Ur probably right about the $150 min. Alot of dealers try to save money and wait to pool their order.

Good to hear about Garganos. I've been monitoring this board about them because I am going to get a few things on the Spyder fixed under warrenty in the spring. It looks like they are pretty well rated by local folks here. They are not the closest for me but I certainly will travel the distance to them to get things done right.

We have 2 good dealers here that I have found. FRS Powersports the main dealer i use and Yamaha of Millington both are good people. So if your passing through the area and need a dealer either one of these guys can take care of you.

i agree smylin.....brp has dropped the ball- too, but my dealer Pensacola Motosports is starting to irritate me too....im getting the same answers as lamonster...uh waiting on parts from one guy, then i ask when i will receive them, they say uh well we are waiting for brp to tell us what to do...right after speaking with first guy.... i think brp bit off a little more than it could chew, espec on the se5(mine) but the dealers dont seem to be helping either....my se5 presently sits in the shop waiting on brp to tell them what to do...go figure:shocked:

The practice of holding customer orders until there is a sufficient quantity to get free shipping is a common practice, and many dealers will not fess up to this. But as others have posted, if you can find a dealership that is HONEST (I know, those two words just don't sound right together) they you will save yourself a lot of frustration in the end.

got a great dealer also, like i said before i think it's the bad dealers that try to make BRP look bad and blame them for there own screw ups :coffee:
knowing that they just want money and don't want to spend it once you buy the spyder.... understanding that some problems are spyder related but.... the repairs should be the responsibility of the dealers and the idea that they don't want to spend money to over night parts it bull$#!^..... :coffee:

can I borrow your dog to take to a dealer for intimidation:D

A good dealer is like gold, it holds its value, everyone wants more of it and it is a rare commodity.

Personally, I'm hoping I'm not 0 for 2 in the Spyder Dealer arena. I am not particularly big on dealer service primarily because I like to do my own work. Not for everyone, I know, but works for me.

Yet even owners like me need the dealer's help from time to time. Like with my current Power Steering and Parking Brake warranty issues.

I love the Spyder and I think it is a great machine especially for the money. I would definetely buy it again. But even in the best of worlds things don't always work like they should.

I don't really have a problem with my Spyder issues. BRP says they will fix them and I'm good with that.

But it's been 3 weeks tomorrow and still no fix time. I hear horror stories about another Spyder rider leaving his at the same dealer the 1st week of November for a water pump shaft seal and not getting it back till late last month.

Talked to the dealer yesterday and they are saying it's BRP's fault (backordered parts). But when they checked BRP had over 1000 of each of the 2 parts we are waiting on. Did they really just come off of back order or what?

When you get the feeling that there isn't much light and it smells of manure you have to wonder. But I'm not sure who is pulling the shades and who is shoveling the stinky stuff.

I'm not looking to bust anyone's chops. I just want a straight up answer that doesn't change with the day it is asked.

I've got a feeling that somebody knows what's going on. But I am not on that list.

Maybe I should consider taking mine there for the next service. I bought mine at Mission Motorsports in Irvine (near the 5 freeway). I was very unhappy with how much they added to the MSRP when I took delivery, and when I had the first service they didn't even give me a list of what they did. They would just say; "we did the service items that the manufacturer lists". Well why not put those things in writing for me, the customer. As I recall the 600 mile service cost over $200.

Sara, your dealer is about twice as far away for me (from Newport Beach) but it would be worth it, if I liked their service better. I'm going to check them out.

Alcoa Good Times problems

Nielsen in Lake Villa, IL.

:thumbup:In my opinion Nielsen Enterprises in Lake Villa, IL. is the best BRP dealer in north east IL. Their service and parts depts. are very professional. The Can Am Spyder tecs are very knowledgeable about the:spyder2: and other BRP products. To me it has been a great place to do business. Nielsen's is located on hwy 83 in Lake Villa, IL. just down the road from the Lehmann Mansion.

:2thumbs: Jim
