For those guys and gals that say the spyder is not a real motorcycle/bike or make the comments about it is only okay to ride a trike if you're physically unable to ride a two wheeler, I have a couple of points to make to you if you live in the south:

1) if you live near me then today is the first real chance of severe weather. It is close to freezing and the grounds are wet so staying off your bike is a good ideal for all. When did I last ride? Yesterday evening(42 degrees) on my spyder, saw only 1 two wheeler in an hour ride. If you live in Dallas and your bike hasn't seen the outside of the garage in two weeks then you have no room to make any comment unless you have a valid reason other than "its too cold".

2) if you have a "real" bike and you are waiting on spring(southern folks only, I know the northern folks can't ride all year) to ride again then you should know that while it doesn't change the quality of your bike it says a lot about the quality of the rider.

...I didn't get into a debate about this with anyone, but this came to me after a conversation with a president of a local club who was open to me "prospecting" for them but wanted to know if I had a regular bike as they had no trikes in the club. Now that is not a issue because a club has the right to ride what they want. Shoot one of my favorite clubs to see rides Harleys only so I get that, but this other club is open to all brands, just no trikes although I ride more than all of them. Then he says I am going to talk with the officers to see what they think...man please, don't go changing for me. I'm sure I'll pass y'all on the road next spring after I have already done a few more thousand miles. Whew!!! I feel better now. Thanks and y'all have a blessed and relaxed Sunday.

I would not let any bunch of snobbish blowhards that consider themselves to good to associate with real bikers (threewheelers included) ruin my day. The fact that they think themselves to good to associate with people who ride on three--IMO--that is THEIR loss.

There are three branded clubs up here just like them. I pass them by all the time. I am back riding with a club that welcomes all bikers of all brands and both two and three wheel configurations. At the moment, I am the only Charter Member still riding with the club.

It was 38 at 11:00 am today when we left for some errands. No, we didn't ride. But we did see several bikes out on the road. We'll be riding more too. Have at least two more toy runs on the schedule as well as a Wreaths Across America escort on 14 December. And our annual New Years ride with the Blue Knights.

Definitely agree with most of what you said....but.....as a Northeasterner I DO ride year round on my two wheeler and on the Spyder. My only restriction is snow and/or ice on the road. My motto is: "There's no such thing as bad riding weather...just bad gear".

If you want to ride with a group, look into "Southern Cruisers." Open to all bikes. There are a bunch of chapters in Houston, maybe there are some in the Dallas area?

You don't have to 'prospect' to join. Just love to ride...

I can sympathize. I've had folks at bike stores treat me like I was riding a Rascal ;-)

However, here's a joke I always say is 10 years of therapy in one joke:

I have both a Spyder and a bike. I ride the Spyder on roads, streets, and freeways. I ride the bike in the dry riverbed.

When someone starts giving me a hard time I usually just walk away. I don't have enough years in my life left to engage with jerks. By the way, I am 63. My father died when he was 101, my mother when she was 98. So with the limited 30 or 40 years I have left...

Ha-ha!!! I'm not looking for a brawl with them. Thankfully there is enough highway for us all to ride what we want to ride. I think the real issue is that sometimes I forget that the spyder isn't considered normal yet. Less than 10 years of existence and a total different look. I already knew that the dominant clubs wouldn't go for a spyder or me for that matter and much respect to them for making that known up front. I guess I kind of figured that the clubs that are not living the biker life 100% wouldn't have many rules other than riding a lot and supporting the club. Maybe if I had the manual version instead of the SE5 they would have considered me more of a rider. lol

i get bothered by the friends i ride with, but they are just busting chops. i keep up with them but sometimes i lag behind but we end up at the same place. i do miss the fact that i need a parking space and that i can't just back the bike in at a angle anymore, but this bike gets more attention than any other bikes i have owned b4

Ditto on the Southern Cruisers. There is a contingent that joins our group for rides. We also ride with them sometimes. :thumbup:

It is odd how some MCs are closed off to Spyder riders and others could care less. Last summer I passed a group of 10-15 guys on the interstate, pretty hard-core group associated with an outlaw group. About 30 minutes later I pulled into a gas station and they were there. The biggest guy in the bunch, full of chains and piercings, strolled straight over to me. He said "You blew right past us on the highway."

Me (traveling by myself): gulp, "um, yeah."

Him: "It's pretty fast? This thing is bad-a**. I told my guys I might get one of those cuz of my bum leg. How much these things cost?"

And off the conversation went for ten minutes. Now maybe the club didn't care if it was a Spyder because their Vice-President was the one talking, but it was still cool since so many other groups get this weird, snobby thing going.

Ride, your ride, Grady. You don't need 'em if they have to vote to see if your Spyder is acceptable or not.
