Custom Mirror Extensions

My husband installed the 4" NMN handlebar risers a few months ago, and the first thing I noticed (along with everyone else, I imagine) was that I now had a real nice view of my gloved hands.

So over the winter, my husband designed and fabricated some mirror extensions and installed them today. (The models available on line didn't extend the mirrors out far enough for me.) I think they came out great, :2thumbs: so thought I'd post a picture or two.

THANKS! He was going to powder coat them black, but when we saw how neat it looked in silver, with my Spyder being silver, decided to use a clear powder coat.

Yes, think I'll keep him! We've been married 37 years now -- he's just gotten broken in REAL GOOD! :clap:

ksdaile: I asked him and he said he used aluminum billet. I remember he made rough ones out of wood first, just to see if his design would work.

:thumbup: Looks nice. How much larger are they than the Kewlmetal extensions and how did you make the turn signal wires reach?

I think the Kewlmetal extensions are 2". This wouldn't have been enough of an extension for me. The ones my husband made take the mirrors out approximately 3-1/2" and up approximately 2-1/2". The "up" part is from mounting blocks, which he also made. The original wires were long enough to reach.

I'm real happy with them -- now if the weather would warm up, it'd be perfect!

Funny, my husband first said he should make it out of wood first before making the " official" one. I've only had my bike since September and it turned cold before I had a chance to ride. I can't wait for warmer weather......suppose to be 70 on Saturday here in Kansas......hope I can ride! :2excited:

You LUCKY pup! We're outside of St. Louis and it got up to 50 today, but there's still a ton of snow on the ground. If it gets up to 60 or so next weekend, we're RIDING!! :clap: I know lots of people ride no matter how cold it gets -- guess I'm too old and puny for that!

i like to get a thick coating of fat over the body for winter kind of like a seal or polar bear just so i can ride in the cold ..of course

nickcaro: My husband says that he doesn't really have any plans to make the mirror extensions. They were mostly hand made, not machine made, so lots of time involved. Luckily for me, I have an "in" with the designer and manufacturer!

tatt2r: Yes, I like the silver and black too -- goes with the bike and the look of the NMN handlebar risers. Kind of a "robotic" look. As I mentioned earlier, he was going to powder coat them black, but once we saw them on the bike, liked this better.

Well, everything is all put back together, and it would be difficult and pretty time-consuming to remove them. Also, the wiring for the turn signals would have to be disconnected and removed in order to remove the extensions from the bike.

My husband has long since thrown away the wooden prototypes.

If you'd like of pictures of the extensions on the bike that are closer up, I can do that easily, just let me know.

Here's a few more pictures, closer up. I could only get to the right side mirror, because my bike is stored in our garage, and the left side is up against a wall. Sorry for the dust! It's covered, but still gets dusty!
