Windshield Won't Stay Up!

Got the Ultra Touring windshield from the dealer and since it's a little cooler, we installed it today and went for a ride. Well, the darn thing will not stay up (I need it in the second from top position) and works its way all the way to the bottom. My question is: Is there a right or wrong way to tighten something to make it stay put, or is it just too heavy? How discouraging is this?! Sharon

I'd see your dealer. I suspect it is a combination of weight and added wind pressure. I don't know if it is adjustabe,m but the dealer should hear about it and report it. BRP should not be selling accessories that will not work with the machine...or the machine should be ccompatible with all factory accessories. They can't fix it if they don't know it's broken.

I had/have the same problem with my Ultra Touring Windshield. Talked with my service tech and he believes there is an adjustment for this. He will check it the next ime mine is in for service.

SharonL please keep us posted as to what you find out.

calsci windsheild

I recently installed a new extra wide large wind shield from California Scientific on my STL and so far it stays up just fine it does have a vent in the middle lower part to help equalize the pressure. I haven't had a chance to put a lot of miles on since I installed it but i think that I will be using it in the lowest position anyway I am still experimenting.

hope you find a easy fix for your new wind shield. other than not staying up does it add a lot more wind protection than the stock one?

Did you get the extra wide CalSci windshield? I have one of the extra wide ones and my hands on the grips hit the edges of the windshield when turning lock to lock. I also found the edges on the new CalSci windshield not up to their usually quality of my previous two CalSci windshields.

calsci windshield

yes I did notice that my hands were hitting lock to lock as well. I also concur on the quality as there were small chips in the Polycarb. at the top

Much Better

For the short amount of time that it does stay up, I found that it was much better than the stock windshield. It's been a little cooler here in central Indiana and that is exactly why we changed it out. All I can think to do (if there isn't a fix) is to order one that is the correct height when down all the way from Cali Sci, but what a crock. I keep telling myself that I DID NOT MAKE A MISTAKE BUYING THE '13 STL instead of waiting for the '14 RT's, but I am getting frustrated with the recall ...and now this!

Have to agree..!!

with running by the dealer and having them make the adjustments needed or in the event they can't get it right look into it. Seems to me it should be just an adjustment...

I have been for to decent rides since fitting the BRP Ultra Touring Shield. And so far (fingers crossed) it has stayed in the top position
for the whole time. Spent a lot of time at 110kph, which is a bit over 60mph.

Well I did about 500kms riding over the weekend, and unfortunately I had this problem a number of times.
I was wondering if making a hole/slot similar to Calsci Screens would help? Any thoughts would be appreciated

Not sure a hole in the windscreen would help. I tend to believe the OEM set up is just not made to support the heavier windscreen weight. I had mine apart two weeks ago and could find nothing in the support bracket to adjust to make the ratcheting mechanism any stronger.

Oh, well, probably gonna live with it!

When I took it in to the dealer for the recall work, I was told that to work on the windshield was probably a 2-4 hour job so they didn't tackle it that day. I think they would only be on a fishing expedition anyway, so I'm not going to have it repaired, at least not now. They talked like I might have to pay to have it fixed...um, what's up with that?! Said that it probably wasn't a defective part (which would be under warranty).

Mmmmm, windshield made for this bike, not staying up...somehow my fault. And no, choices of dealers are nada. Time to park for winter weather anyway and still love her. If anyone hears of a fix, please let me know. Otherwise, not going to worry about it anymore.

Just rode for 9 days 2500kms (1600 miles) Ended up using a cable tie to hold my screen up. Looped it through the bracket and back over the high point on top of the dash. It worked well, although not something that should have to be done

Good thinking!

Windshield Won't Stay Up! #2

Having the same issue. 2013 ST-L. Added the Can Am branded Ultra touring shield and the thing wriggles down in about 10 minutes. Took it to local dealer and was told there was nothing to adjust to make it tighter. Now we may put the stock back on since we can't find a fix. This should not happen! :banghead:

Otherwise, happy happy happy.:doorag:

I had the same problem. Ended up drilling holes in sdjustment track and screwing a small machine screw in each track stopping the screen from sliding down. It works fine but you have no adjustment.

It's a simple fix!! BRP recommends and sells a spring kit for the Ultra Touring Windshield. The springs are much stiffer and keeps the windshield in its position like glue.
1) if your dealer ordered it and installed it I would argue they should have known as its referenced on the product page
2) if you ordered it, again, it's referenced on the product page, but you NEED to order the spring kit and install.

I had my dealer install my Windscreen and they forgot the springs = Windscreen fell when I hit bumps. Took it back, had them install springs = rock solid!!!
