remote controlled gloryder observation and question....

As a flashlight battery drains the bulb becomes dimmer. I noticed yesterday on my gloryders that after having them installed for a month and only having them on 3 times for an hour each time that I was missing at least 3 of the colors. I put in fresh batteries and once again have all 9 colors. So, I'm guessing the first indication that the batteries need to be changed isn't dimmer lights, on the remote gloryders.

Someone on here mentioned anytime you have a remote that the batteries become drained even if you don't use it; that person wasn't specifically talking gloryders. If that's true, I'm wondering if he meant the remote batteries, or the board batteries, or both? I ask because I keep the remote in the spyder trunk and was wondering if keeping it away from the spyder is a better idea?

It wasn't a complaint as much as an observation. I'm going to keep the remote in the house and see if that helps.

I have remotes on many things.

My observation w remotes is this....

Keep quality batteries in them like Energizers/Duracells.

Don't leave them out in the cold.

Change them out at least every 6-9 months.

Don't drop them.

Don't flush them down the toilet.

The two AA batteries on the GloRyders are on all the time because they are constantly looking for a signal to give them instruction on what to do. Just the nature of the beast when it comes to most all remote items that operate like the GloRyders.

Thank you quickster47, could'nt have said it better! To chime in here Wyleic cramming that much technology on to such a small board was a challenge to say the least. Power consumption was a major obstacle to overcome and why it was not released years ago. As quickster said you cannot put the board to sleep as we do with our automatic version otherwise it would not "hear" the signal when you pressed the remote control (we considered that but it would have meant you could only turn it on when you were in motion, so safety issue = no go) so it is on duty 24 hrs a day. In our first prototypes the batterys lasted about 24 hours, the 1.0 release, starting with the pre-order in November 2012, lasted about one month and was met with less than stellar reviews prompting the early release of the 2014 version GR-214. That upgrade got rid of the antenna and close to 2 months standby time. We now have a revision 2 of the GR-214 (R2) that is coming out this month with up to 3 months standby time, as well as better battery clips and software.

To sum up it is the nature of the beast until we release the generator version that is - (please dont ask for a delivery date as the man said, " We will serve no wine until it is time"
