Spyderquest was born on SpyderLovers.com when the guys and gals from the NY Spyder Riders decided to pick up the ball and run with it when they heard that the Spyder event in that area had been dropped. These guys had never put on an event before but they had a good idea what they wanted to do and were willing to put the work in that it took to make it happen. They picked Lake George, NY for the event and you couldn't have picked a better place. As most of you know this is where Americade has been held for years and there's a reason for that. The area has some great riding and this time of the year was great as the Fall colors were just starting to show. The temps were perfect for riding and we only had one day where it rained but that was after our dinner cruise on the last night, that was the only time I got wet.
This event I did something I almost never do and that's trailer to the event. I did have a good reason though and that's because my wife Chris said she would go with if I didn't ride up. This was the first time she was back in the wind since we hit the deer on the F6B in June. I was prepared to get up there and unhook the truck if she changed her mind about riding on the back of the Spyder, I wouldn't have blamed her at all. I will say I think her motorcycle days are over and even though she had some anxiety about being in the wind again she feels much safer on the Spyder as she should. Having that extra wheel would have kept us upright and we wouldn't have slid down the road the way we did on the bike.
The nice thing is my friends Harvey and his lovely wife Terri decided they would trailer up with us so I wouldn't feel so out of place. I appreciate that they made that sacrifice as I know Harvey would have rather rode for sure. That's what good friends do for each other. Thanks guys
We took two days to get there as it was just over 900 miles and we wanted an relaxing day on Thursday for the opening ceremony. When we got to the Lake George RV park there was a good group of folks there.
Randy and his crew had everything setup when we got there. They had a great meal planned for us as part of the package and there was no shortage of food or fun. There were a ton of donations from SpyderLover vendors and they had a unique way of handing them out that I've never seen at any of the rallies I've been to. They had Bingo cards for all the members and you had to win a hand to get the prize. That was really fun and the wife loved it, even won $100.00 gift from BRP! She bought a nice jacket at the local dealer there and some other goodies.
The next day was packed full of great stuff. We met at the local Can Am dealer and the Rolo guys were doing laser alinements and the store was pretty much packed. The parking lot was so full they had to park most of the folks in the back. You didn't realize how many were back there till we took off for the ride through the Adirondack mountains.
The ride from the shop was great and we worked our way into Vermont and took the fairy across the river to NY. That was a blast seeing all those Spyders on the barge.
From there we stopped off for lunch at Fort Ticonderoga and hung out there for a couple of hours. If you like history this is a must see location. I'm really glad we stopped for this. While we were there we took a group pic.
From there we drove to the Hot Air Balloon Festival and I got to say that was my favorite part of the day except for how long it took to get in and out of the airport. I got to help crew for one of the balloons and that was a blast.
The next day Chris and I decided to do our own thing and take a look around the town of Lake George. We had a nice relaxed day and saved our energy for the dinner cruise on the lake. That was well worth the price of admission.
All in all this was one of the best Spyder events I've been to and I would highly recommend doing this next year again. I had a blast and the crew from the NY Spyder Riders did a fantastic job for their first event. I can't think of anything that wasn't done that should have been. I think this will continue to grow through the years to come. Thanks again for a great time.
