• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Sharing The Road

Just so there is no confusion on this ,,,PASSING on the right is only" ILLEGAL " if you have to leave the legal traveled portion of the road to do so.....On a road where two lanes are going in the same direction the left lane is designated as the passing lane.....However if there is some IDIOT who just wants to drive at or below the speed limit in the PASSING LANE .....Well I'm going to pass on the RIGHT ,,and it's legal in the jurisdictions I'm familar with.......Mike

Being legally right doesn't keep you from being just as dead.

I couldn't have said it better, don't pass on the right. It's just dangerous.

On one car alone i put on 350 thousand miles [not a typo], Driving into Manhattan.
And if you never pass on the right you'll never get any-where..
And bye the way i never had an accident...
I'll bet most people have and will pass on the right, When the occasion arises...

Flight Instructor's Words of Wisdom

My former flight instructor used to tell me every time we flew, "If your neck is not sore when you land. You did not look around enuff."

You might have gotten away with it in spite of your actions; not because of them...
But :congrats:anyway!

:agree: My old driver's ed teacher always said "Pass with authority!" That pretty well covers it.
When I was on two wheels I got a ticket for passing with authority on a two lane road. This big rig was going 50 in a 55 zone and I had enough so I passed him and while passing I was clocked going over 65mph making the pass . In NYS you can not break the speed limit when passing any car or truck. I wish law makers would realize it would take a very very large passing lane of road to pass without breaking the speed limit and cut motorists some slack in this law.

Of-cause, When i do something in the grey area, I never do it timidly, I never give the other guy a chance to look up and cut me off.
Besides just ask anybody, And they'll all say ;That Bob O. He ''Is'' the Greatest driver since Andy Granatelli.
And slipperier then his screwdriver's were..;);) :roflblack:

Patience can save your life. Passing on the right may be legal but it is dangerous. Why take the chance? I don't even like to pass on the right in my cage. It's not that I don't trust my driving skills, it is all the idiot drivers out there that I don't trust.

After giving this more consideration, I realize that the truck driver probably didn't even see us, and I broke my own rule of staying back from trucks. It had a happy ending this time, but I may not be so lucky the next. I have since apologized to my wife for putting us in that situation. I informed her that if she ever felt that I was getting too close to a truck, to tap me on the shoulder or poke me in the ribs to remind me to back off. I also told her that I would rather get to our destination later and live to tell about it. It's not worth the risk. Lesson learned.

I have said this before, but if you get a chance at a M/C or Car Rally to go to a "No Lone Zone" display. (some go by different names). Do it. The truckers want you see what they see. It is usually a semi rig and you are allowed to sit it in it. There were two police cars and several motorcycles around one and none could be seen in the convential mirrors. The "School bus" mirrors on the front fenders help, bu there still lot of blind zones.
I would also agree, some people just do not give a **** about you.

Check this out... Interesting....the no zone on the right is a lot bigger than the no zone on the left!

And those zones approximate what the driver can see and not see when the mirrors are properly adjusted . . . it can be a lot worse if they are not adjusted properly. When I drove for Mayflower Van Lines in Omaha, I had a different truck, almost every trip . . . and some mirrors were so corroded that adjustment was a dream, not a reality . . .

Wow. I never thought about those drawings being approximate, or best case.

I guess the same would be true for busses, and camping trailers are driven by non-professionals, so they need an even wider margin of safety.

Very likely that he never did see you.

I ride like everyone is deliberately trying to kill me. That way when it happens I won't be surprised! :)
