Stuck in 4th gear

SE-5. Headed out for a little ride today and got about an hour away from home and got stuck in fourth gear. Was able to turn around and get back home in 4th. Took the panels off and found the linkage has came loose. My question is how do I know where to position it to put it back on the splines so that it will shift correctly. I hope this is all that's my problem.

Lamonts right 6:00 o'clock. Lots of folks have just put it back on and it worked fine. It is sort of self aligning. If it is not correct you will have trouble sifting up or down. If thats the case try again.

Yep. Sounds familier. Happened to me in third gear. Thanks to Lamont and Spyderpop it was put back on and I have not had a problem. It took it 34k miles before it came off.

Did it slide back on easy or did you have to tap it back on?

My 2010 shop manual states the indentation (dot) in the face of splined shaft should be positioned in the center of the slot on the linkage. Had my linkage come off twice on the road in a couple thousand miles. Both roadside repairs i just stuck it on to get moving again. While doing next oil change i checked the shop manual, mine was a tooth off from recommended position. took it loose and repositioned it and has stayed put near 7000 miles now.
it was a bit of a pain to get on at that spot on mine. it wanted to go on one tooth off. I had to pull linkage arm a bit while sliding on shaft. After 3 or 4 tries i got dot in center of slot. Not sure if it makes any difference but i have added that check to my regular under the tupprware inspecions.

glad your all set. Make sure you have a tight fit. Sometimes widening the gap with a file give you a better pinch....ryde on..!! :thumbup:

Blue Loctite on the bolt might help also.

Same thing happened to me , during trip to Montana . Just manually got it back to natural and slid it back on. Works great.
