FEEL RIPPED OFF

Hello I purchased my 2013 RT 23 days ago. i was not a member of this forum when I purchased mybike. I was looking at Honda trikes and Harley-Davidson trikes. I started to research the spyder On Can am website and YouTube videos. Then I went to my local dealer and test drove one and I was hooked. Since I purchased my bike and became a member of this forum I learned of a lot of issues the 2013 are having. Also my highbeam does not work my air ride suspension has a slow leak plus the master cylinder recall and the bike can burst into flames. I am starting to second-guess my purchase. Where I feel ripped off is I asked my local dealer if there was going to be any major changes for 2014 and he said not that he knew. I did save some money on my bike because it was an end of year sale. But when you're spending that kind of money a couple thousand dollars more is not really an object to me when I'm going to get a better product after seeing the 2014 line up.

I'm going to see him on Thursday for my 600 mile. Maybe I'll give a piece of my mind!

I just find it curious that no engineer or company test pilot found any issue with heat while testing the 2013s. Doesn't appear to be an isolated situation. BRP even produced a video talking about how the 2014s NOW manage the heat. Guess there WAS a problem. :gaah:

Yes I feel Like I own a bike that nobody is ever going to want when it is trade-in time. People Will be like that's the year that CATCHES ON FIRE

I've been riding bikes for years the heat on my foot does not bother me in the slightest. But the safety factor with my wife and I on the bike where can catch on fire is a different story!

Sorry you did not meet up with SL before making your most recent purchase. Most would have recommended hanging on until we saw what the 2014 model year was going to bring our way.

You did mention that you were happy with your purchase until you started finding things out about your particular model year. Sorry that your dealer was not more forthcoming. On the other side--you mentioned you felt you got a good deal.

Hope that you have a good servicing dealer and that you will get many miles of enjoyment out of your new ryde. The members of SL are here to help and provide support if you run into any difficulties. :welcome:

Thanks. I agree with you I find that people are very helpful and friendly on this Forum

I have read about all the problems with the Spyders to the point that I've been scared to even go out in the garage and sit on my RT. Then I have to remind myself that everyone post the problems they are having and very seldom the great trouble free times they have had. I left Friday afternoon after work for a quick trip up north to the Mackinaw Bridge, 760 miles round trip and not an ounce of problems, I just turned 8400 miles on my RT since my purchase August 2012. The RT has ran trouble free and is a blast.

I'll keep my 2012 for two more years and then upgrade. By then BRP will have a couple of years under their belt with the new 1300 and most of the bugs worked out as well.

Yes I think you purchased the right year bike

I couldn't agree more. The 2012's have been a great year. All the bugs worked out from 2 years of real world testing. I was able to read about all the great mods that are out there and pick just the right ones for my style of riding and my budget. (budget, if there's any such thing with a cycle, two or three wheeler)

I'm thinking next year watch and see how the new 2014 RT are performing (who would've thought the 2013 would be the headache they have become) and then buy a 2015 at the end of 2015 with the discounts they offer as the 2016's are coming out.

I would do the same thing if I owned a 2013. I'd keep it two more years. The aftermarket guys are going to come up with some great mods to improve the issues.

I was hoping not to have to buy another one of these when I purchased this one. It's not every day that I dropped $20,000 plus on a toy. I was hoping not to have to replace this in two years. I didn't want to have to plan on buying a lot of aftermarket parts. If I wanted to do that I would've bought something used I could tinker with. With this I expect to go out and turn the key and it starts every time at least when it's brand-new.

Who is your dealer? Mine is also in PA.. Rusty Palmer's in Honesdale. No one in sales or service there knew of any changes coming out. Your dealer isn't the only one that was in the dark! Tom :trike:

My dealer was Leisure Sports and turf in Spring city Pennsylvania. It just freaks me out because I purchased this bike with safety in mind for my wife and I.

Enough Already....

Folks need to take a deep breath and give the 2013's a break. Yes, there have been heat problems on SOME 2013 spyders, and if yours is one of them, that's a huge issue and you have my sympathy and best wishes for a solution from BRP. It's taken them way too long to respond.

However, the VAST MAJORITY of 2013's are not having heat problems, as evidenced by the small number of problems being found when installing the recall kits. No, I don't have all of the stats, but from what I read on this forum and talking with local dealers, the heat problems are serious for a FEW spyders, but not a widespread issue.

If you have a 2013, get the recall kit installed free, then go out, ryde and enjoy.....that's why you bought it! If you don't have a 2013 and don't want one, fine, don't get one. Hasn't the 2013 bashing gone on long enough? And yes, I have one, love it, and no plans to trade in.

Ok, I feel better now. thanks :2thumbs:

You are probably right. It seems that on the forums you only hear the bad stuff not the good stuff. I hope that yours and mine continuous to give us trouble-free fun.

Don't be to quick in knocking your 2013.We have had ours sence may 27th of this year.We have 10,500 trouble free miles so far this year.Should be around 15,000 when we put it to bed for the year.We have also rode the two wheeler 7,000 miles this year.No I do not like stopping every 130 miles for fuel but that is what it is.I get more heat from my Yamaha then I do from the Spyder.I think I have read about three Spyders burning up and that is not a good thing.I don't know if all 3 were 13s.Yes there has been some with trouble but if you think about the thousands of 13s on the road that have not had any trouble. That sort of puts things in perspective. Now 10,000 miles does not make me an expert.I heard you have to be 100 miles from home to become an expert,I am setting in my home so you know what that makes me.Just my $.02 worth here.I notice that a lot of the people who knock the 13s don't own one or have ever ridden one so go ride the H out of yours and come back next year and let us know what you think.

Don't..!!

unfortunately many who come here think what they read represents thousands of spyders. The fire issue has been with three RT models and the recall is preventing any others. I have found out that the reason for the delay is our most helpful government. Brp wanted to repair the units affected but our government stated this is a design change and would require a recall. So no repairs could be done. This process took months. Some dealers and customers did their own mods in the meantime. But the changes for 2014 were well kept so don't blame the sales guy for it all..:dontknow:

Its easy to have buyers remorse, but it pretty much happens with all products. You would expect the next generation to be "better" "faster" or "bigger". Look at computers, the life cycle on a particular model is about 6 months before the next big thing hits. If there is nothing wrong with your spyder, ride the heck out of it. If there are issues, we all hope that BRP steps up and fixes them, now...not later.
