There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Recall

Well my dealer finally got the recall parts in for my 2013 RTS. Bringing it in today and p/u tomorrow. Hope everything goes ok.

:agree: The new heat shield will protect the master cylinder and evaporative canister...
Here's hoping that you get your bike back quickly, and completely free of heat issues!

Why is it that folks think this is going to cure all the heat problems on the RT and ST?

This is only a token that BRP is throwing to us and most certainly does not address the root cause of the heat problems.

Query? What is the "root cause"?

I'm with Chris. What is the root cause?

Also, has BRP claimed this will cure all the heat problems? If so, I haven't seen it and if not, people are making unfounded assumptions. This solution is intended to address very specific safety issues. Other heat related problems likely fall into preferences, which don't rise to the level of a safety recall.

Just called my dealer, Metro Motorsports in Cedar Rapids, IA. The girl in the service department said that it might be a couple of weeks yet before they see any parts for the recall. You'd think BRP could get parts to the dealers faster. Of course, this dealer is primarily a Harley dealer although they do have a good Spyder tech. Not a big deal for me though, I check my MC last Saturday and it looks fine. Would like to get it fixed though.

The root cause is a covered engine, But would anybody buy a naked Spyder Especially with the present engine., I think not.
An engine is a heat pump, The last few bikes i had were so called naked bikes and they still got hot.

So the root cause is they made the Spyder pretty And unique.. And thats why they sell...
Nothing wrong with that.....

Just got the call

We go in tonight for service tomorrow. Tech says about an hours worth of work, and they are providing replacement or protection for the canister. I must say that we have not had a lot of heat issues with this ryde. I fully expected to be warm riding on top of an internal combustion motor, and that is what I have felt. I have not been HOT until this last Sunday afternoon when we were ryding home from our group ryde, and it was 102 outside.

I personally do not believe that this

will do anything to address heat issues that riders complain about. Wrapping a part in heat tape doesn't fix the problem.

Done today.

I was not going to get mine done until winter but I had another thing I wanted the dealer to look at so to make the 3 hour round trip worthwhile got the recall done.

It took a little under 2 hours. It was the first one they did, so the next one will be a lot faster. No melted parts at all found. So it looks like blocking the air under the seat caused no harm for sure and I suspect helped.

Making conversation with the dealer I found out he had enough kits to do the machines he sold, but no one else has made an appointment to get it done. He said he had a couple calls but no one seems to be in a hurry.

Took my 2013 RT-S to my dealer, Seminole Power Sports of Sanford, Flarda, for the 14,000 mile oil change and maintenance. Asked that they not even bother with the valve check. Asked that they install the recall kit, change the transmission fluid, change the coolant ratio from 50/50 to 25/75 (25 coolant and 75 distilled water), perform the obvious oil change and any other maintenance item for 14,000 miles. My dealer had plenty of "recall kits". I'm not really sure why other dealers as has been reported are having problems getting.

Chris

Not to worry..!!

it's an easy fix and takes about an hour to hour and a half depending on the tech. should be out quick...on a side note weren't you changing your name. ..:roflblack: Haven't found Lamont...

I'd be real surprised if you could get a dealer to change the coolant mix to something other than what BRP specifies.

There is no 'transmission fluid' The engine and transmission share a common supply of motor oil. The SE trans does have its own filter for the controls. Also you need to be sure the coolant you are using is effective as a corrosion inhibitor at the lower concentration. Most EG based coolants specify a minimum 33% concentration for this reason. There are other corrosion inhibitor products that you can use though.

You are EXACTLY right. (and here I am a "stickler" for being precise with his words). What I meant to say was the "clutch fluid" which I believe is different? Perhaps not.
