• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I just got off the phone with NHTSA and they have NO Reports or investigations on going for the 2013 Spyders. Unbelievable :yikes:. What we need to do is submit complaints to them via snail mail if we haven't had a failure. Those who have already looked at the MC and see melting may be able to report it via phone @ 1-888-327-4236 ( are you listening Spyderann? ). If you have inspected it and see the melting you can try that route too. Apparently BRP HAS NOT contacted NHTSA from what they tell me they have no complaints and no reports ( so they say). If you write them the address is

US Dept of Transportation
NHTSA
1200 New Jersey Ave SE West Building
Washington DC 20590

You may reference the Canadian recall and submit pictures of the melt including cap melts..

It is time to mail bomb them if we expect to get any action. I certainly do not want mine failing and burning up. I do not want to be the Ghost Rider.

This ends my public information PSA

Your Government in action... :gaah:

Ain't that the truth. I just got off the phone with BRP and they swear they did contact them I told them they need to do it again because it does not show up on the searches so the investigation has not even started. They said they would and seemed to indicate (unofficially) that they believe the fires were from the MC.

Well... I know for a fact that they have at least one report on the melting mc..... I sent it in on FB's bike back in June.nojoke

It will makes it way through the BS eventually. Eventually = ? or 10 more fires, whichever coms first. :banghead:

Just spoke to my dealer.

I just got off the phone with my service Dept. at Velocity Power Sports in Ladson, SC. They called BRP and were told that the solution has not been approved in the US, but that it is expected to be approved within a few days. The dealer has already ordered the parts necessary to implement the fix. In the interim I have wrapped my Master Cylinder with heat shielding.

If you are directly impacted (FB) call them and report it. They will take those reports over the phone. We know how email/snail mail can be.

Still :bbq::bbq::bbq:

It is interesting that some can find the information on NHTSA and some can't. Do they have separate websites? or do you have to get into the "nooks and cranny's" of the site to find the information?

A call to a large agency like NHTSA is worthless. RE: IRS information line at tax time. If you call the help line three times in a row with the same question--you are likely to end up with three different answers to the question. It all depends on the "agent" of the minute.

There is also the "lag time" issue. Things that are happening within the last week, are not likely to be a part of the agencies current information.

I do hope that the process moves quickly and gets the problem solved for those that have issues. My big complaint has been pointed out by many previous posters on many of these threads.

Why did it take this long for BRP to acknowledge a problem? etc. etc. etc. I mentioned it looked like possible issues way back in February 2013. We started with squirrley handling and then graduated to fires.

Thanks for the information.

Agree totally about the lack of complaints. We have sure seen and heard plenty of them on SL--what gives? Unless--the complaint registrant stopped the process after contacting BRP and posting about it on SL.

They could have the complaint list pasted to their forehead and they might still tell you they didn't know anything about it. It is the Uber Efficiency of our illustrious Federal Government in action.

Call 10 times, get 10 different people and 10 different answers.... :banghead:

From NHTSA's website: http://www.nhtsa.gov/Vehicle+Safety...+Vehicle+Safety+Defects+and+Recalls+Campaigns

Manufacturers voluntarily initiate many of these recalls, while others are either influenced by NHTSA investigations or ordered by NHTSA via the courts. If a safety defect is discovered, the manufacturer must notify NHTSA, as well as vehicle or equipment owners, dealers, and distributors. The manufacturer is then required to remedy the problem at no charge to the owner. NHTSA is responsible for monitoring the manufacturer’s corrective action to ensure successful completion of the recall campaign.

So according to NHTSA, it is BRP's responsability to notify NHTSA as soon as possible about the issue and\or take action about it. NHTSA will monitor the issue once it has been reported. So we wait... yeah, let's keep filling in NHTSA so they can see the seriousness of this issue... BRP can issue a VOLUNTARY RECALL in the process...

Notice no investigations listed just complaints. Dealer told me there has to be 2 % affected before that happens. Don't know if that is true or not. Report complaints people that is the only way it is going to happen.

I discovered yesterday the melting plastic on the master cylinder and reported it to NHTSA.

ALL RT OWNERS NEED TO INSPECT THEIR RIDES AND FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA...ASAP
