• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Just signed up for a tour for next June - 70th Anniversary of D-Day. Group is the Stephen Ambrose Historical Tours. Check it out if you've got any interest. Should be a great tour.;)

The programs that are bringing WWII Vets back to see the Memorial for free are truly fantastic programs...They should have done this many years ago...same for our Korean & Vietnam Vets that have never been to the memorials..It's truly a humbling experience but gives the veteran a small tribute to them for thier dedication to our country..Every veteran should recieve thanks for thier dedication and service considering the multitude of the population of this country has never even considered serving our country to protect our freedoms..It's part of the entitlement society..Those who have never given a day of service reap the numerous rewards of living in what used to be a great country...I'm thinking it's part of the redistribution of wealth...or poverty that's predominate in this country today...I apologize for the rant but at the same time I believe that everybody should serve a term of service to our country be it military, civil service or whatever drove the people of our society during WWII to volunteer thier services. Consider Rosie the Riveter, The USO and numerous other groups that supported our troops in the past..I don't believe our children or grandchildren will ever experience the freedoms and pleasures associated with growing up in the 50's-60's & 70's. Haters don't attack me...It's the world I grew up in and it's changed way quicker than I could imagine...God Bless our troops and our veterans.

Used to be a great country? Sorry, I still think it is.

To the OP, here's hoping you have a great time.

I couldn't agree more. Everything you said is absolutely true. A couple of years of service to the country should be compulsory, whether it is in the military or the Peace Corps or something like the Civilian Conservation Corps. Anyone who thinks America today is still exceptional has obviously not paid attention.

I to agree with all of your statements. I was in the draft era and found the experience to be a benefit to me. And yes we were a lot better off as a country then.

Yes, there's been plenty of changes. All for the good? NO. Then again, I don't expect everything to be as I wish. If it were, then I'd be living in Utopia. Without change there is no progress and sometimes with change there is no progress.:dontknow:

But, since you're free to move around, where would you like to live? Assuming there is a place that you may consider exceptional?

I've been to many places and served my country and retired after 20 and this is the place I want to live and I can think of no better. Of course to vacation in, I can think of many.

By the way, I've been through those same eras of which you speak and I do agree with everything else that you say.

To the OP. Sorry for getting way off topic now.

I live in a community where we have raised money to send every WWII vet that lives here back to DC to get the honor that they deserve. All of them were pretty much overwhelmed with the experience.

I'd say you live in an excellent community.

I do live in a good place. More to the point is that WWII vets are dying off pretty fast. I have one that lives next door to me and he and his wife just celebrated their 70th anniversary. Yikes! In any case he was married and landing on islands in the Pacific at an age when most of us had not graduated high school. Good on him.
