• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Throttlemeister and J & M Spyder CB Kit

My husband says to check the SWR and the ground. I have the CB on my spyder and have had no problems with it ..but... I am on my 2nd antenna. We thought maybe the first one snapped so easily because I had a flag on it.

Nope Nancy, they just snap easily. All Brian did was brush up against mine and poof it was gone. Heck, he didn't even know his was gone until I told him. When I did have it though, it worked pretty darn good. I was getting signals with truckers about 2 miles away. Hopefully we get it all worked out before the touring season begins. Then I expect you to make your way up to Michigan for some rides. LOL

Throttlemeister ordered...normal weight, black color...looking forward to getting it and installing it!

Thanks for all the help on this one everyone...this should make a nice modification to help with relaxing the right hand while ryding long distances...

I would absolutely like riding into MI this summer. We're about 2 1/2 hours south of Toledo. Maybe you can get us some good places to ride to? (Some of the people we ride with like having a "destination".)

That is not a problem, I have some thoughts already. As we get closer to good weather I will definitely get in touch with you.

Spyder SE J&M CB question

I noticed many of you have he J&M CB mounted on your SpYders. We recently bought a SpYder SE--and called J&M and they said they don't have a bracket to mount the CB on the handlebar. Has anybdy conquered this problem? They DO have the mount for the Manual Shift version.

Their CB mount fits under the screws that holds the clutch lever / reservoir. Being SE5s don't have clutch levers, their J&M mount won't work. I'm sure something could be relatively easily adapted to fit the J&M CB to an SE5, maybe as easy as using the right size U-bolt to hold their mount to the handlebars. The other thing is the Push to Talk button fits in the 1/4" to 3/8" gap between the left handlebar controls and the grip. I'm not sure if the SE5 has that same open space or if you would have to somehow create that space for the Push to Talk button.

Oh yea..... Welcome to SpyderLovers Airboss :spyder:

When I sold my last bike, it had a J&M solo on it, and I kept it for my next bike, thinking all I had to do was buy a new bracket. Not so on the Spyder, as their plan uses a seperate PTT switch, which mine wont accept (solo unit, not dual)
I am currently having a friend make a bracket to mount it in front of the clutch resevoir using the two screws that hold the clutch assy. I should be able to reach the PTT from there, and the mount I designed should not interfere with the reverse lockout.
If it works out, Ill be sure to post pictures, and possibly ask him if he wants to make more of them for sale here on the forum.

Stay tuned!!!

cb tips

As a 30+ year CB nut, I can offer the following on antenna tuning:

1) Ground is crucial! If the antenna mount is not properly grounded to the frame of the vehicle, you will never get it tuned.

2) When using an SWR (standing wave ratio) meter to tune the antenna, make sure the coax cable is hooked-up to the proper connectors on the meter (output/input), and follow the instructions that come with the meter.

3) Make sure to be 20 or more feet away from any other vehicles, structures, etc. when tuning your antenna. This includes other people.

4) The higher the antenna, the better it is, but there's not much you can do on a Spyder.

5) No matter what she says, longer is better! Use the longest antenna you can put up with looks-wise.

6) You're aiming for the lowest SWR you can get - anything less than a 1.5 is good - but some antennas are tough to tune, as long as you are less than the red zone of the meter you should be O.K.

7) There are 3 methods to tuning: tune the channel you will be using the most (17 or 19 for truckers, etc,), channel 20 since it is in the middle of the band, and tuning channels 1 and 40 to the lowest they will go and match each other, the rest of the channels should be close.

8) Firestick antennas usually have a copper wire underneath the top cap that you trim to tune - never cut more than 1/4 inch off of this at a time, then re-check the SWR. If you trim too much you'll have to solder some more wire back on to it.

9) There is no magic number - tune it as low as it will go as long as it is not in the red.

10) CB radios are fickle pieces of equipment, that's why they are being replaced with FRS radios. At any given time of day, with a CB your talk range can vary from less than a mile to 5-6 miles!

update

11) I noticed someone suggested taking the radio and antenna off of the Spyder and sending them to be tuned - don't - everything must be on the vehicle to tune the antenna properly!
