RSS Too much heat!!

Just sold my 2008 RS Spyder and bought a new 2013 RSS. My problem is that I am having a big heat problem coming from the exhaust pipe vent. From the inside of my calf to above the knee gets bright red and sore from the
hot air flow. I'm 5'8" long legs and when I sit forward on the bike my knees sit above and over the vent quite a ways.. I noticed it the most when I went to Durango in 2011 with the extremely hot weather. We wrapped the pipe with insulation. It didn't help like I was hoping it would, and now with the new bike it almost unbearable to ride.(haven't put any wrap on it yet). Maybe putting on a scoop to disperse the air somewhere else other than me might work. Sympathies to the gal on the RT with her own heat issue.
Any one have any suggestions?. Just got the back and have only put on 1000 miles. haven't been to the dealer for first check yet.

A decent set of riding boots and pants should protect you from the worst of the heat...

Bob is right you can't wear shorts. and tennis shoes and expect to be cool on a Spyder or any motorcycle. I am not suggesting that the OP wears shorts just that proper gear will keep you cooler

I think preference where warranted is key .

I think we all or most know when riding to wear the proper gear , realistically I have found my self throwing on pair sneakers and shorts for a short ride to the store or when riding around locally , of course if your taking a long road trip ,highway riding ect then common sense is to suit up correctly . I my self find it kind of over kill to suit up with boots and heavy gear to ride one or 2 miles to the 7/11, I know even going up the block things can happen . Just being realistic.

The heat issues with the 2013's have been well discussed--so, compared to the 2008 that was traded in, there is probably a difference.

When I was in Hawaii, I rode in 90 degree temperatures for the first time. I noticed the heat coming from the 2010? RS, much more than I have ever noticed on my other four :spyder2:'s. Having not ridden a 2013--I have no comparison.

I broke the rules on ATGATT in Hawaii. I had riding boots, jeans, mesh jacket, fingerless gloves and a half helmet (only one available). By the end of the ride, the mesh jacket was gone. I was still hot as heck.

I'm normally an ATGATT kind of guy too! I did an experiment this summer on one our 90 degree days; I rode in shorts and a Tee-shirt to run some errands. It was a mix of open highway, and in-Town traffic... (about 30 miles)
I DID feel a lot more heat than I ever had before...
It was noticeable; just not objectionable...
But my tolerance levels may be on the high side... You know what they say; "No sense; no feeling!"

I live in Dallas and ride in 100 degree heat and as long as I wear jeans and boots the heat is never unbearable or caused any actual burning. Yes there is a lot of heat when setting at stop light after stop light but as long as I don't ride with my legs resting on the plastic it is bearable. My bike always shows 5 bars on the temp gauge on hot days.

Maybe..!!

wrapping the pipe, adding some shielding to the tupper wear will help some. It did on mine but I don't have a 2013..or do like we do and don't stop..:roflblack:

Some Spyder lovers like the additional heat on the 2013. Those of us stuck with 2012's only get a little heat on our right lower leg.

Heat problem RSS

I noticed on the 2013 ST they have a heat shield for that problem . I ordered one and installed it on Spyder Girl's RSS , It worked great !!!:spyder:
