• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Parking Break

Hi all, my parking keeps loosening up on my SE5. I’m wondering if any of you are having the same problem. :dontknow:

There are a few threads on this...I don't pay much attention as I have a SM5, but you can look at the general forum and search.

I might be wrong but I think there was a BRP service bulletin covering this topic...there should be a fix and your bike is under warranty...

LOL ... I have just the reverse. My parking break keeps on sticking and won't release easily. Almost always have to try at least 3-4 times before I can get it to release. :banghead:

there is a recall on the parking brake on certain vin numbers.my dealer replaced mine a couple of months ago under the recall.if yours isn't covered try spraying a good teflon spray on the release mechanism.,it has a tendencey to hang up.

Unless your parking brake cable is actually coming loose, I think this may be common with the Spyder. When I first got mine, it required one click on the parking brake to hold the Spyder. Within a few months it went to two, then three, then four, etc. to stop the Spyder from rolling with the parking brake applied. Others have noted the same thing. You have to manually adjust the parking brake every so often to compensate for the rear brake pad wear. If the cable itself is actually loosening, I would take it to the dealer for a looksee.

BRPs parking brake advisory was posted about a while back. I figured that they would have been using the updated parking brake mechanism on all their new Spyders. dltang and I got our parking brakes repaired through the advisory and they seemed to work much better after that (no sticking). However, by that time we had gotten so used to not used the parking brake (just leaving the Spyder in 1st gear) that I don't know if it was a permanent fix. The original design seemed to be very sensitive to any dirt or a lack of lubrication in mechanism. Search these forums for PARKING BRAKE and you'll find over 90 posts with some of them detailing how people have dealt with or fixed the sticking brake problem. I am too lazy to read through them and find specific posts for you. :opps:

If the computer can apply the brakes while running. How come the computer cannot apply the brakes when the key is turned off?

The parking brake should be computer control automatic for the automatic bikes for safety anyway. Hint Hint!!

My 2cents

For this to happen though it would have required a complete overhaul of the computer system for the SE5 causing the price to be jacked way up. I personally hate the Parking brake on my SE5 as it needs to be adjusted about every 2 months depending on how much i set/release it. Now what they may have been able to do a bit cheaper would be modify the programming on the clutch so its not engaged when the engine is off making it like the SM when its powered down. But i guess that would be a safety hazard now that i think about it just liek the braking on power down incase of power failure while riding.

I found the best way to set the parking brake is to set it to the first click then shake the spyder to see if it moves if it doesn't thats were it stays if it does i release it and do 2 clicks and then repeat till i find one that it doesn't move on.

SE5...seems like so many problems...

You don't need a parking brake...just put a log in front and behind the tires...

Okay, maybe not...tell BRP to fix all their darn problems with the SE5!
