• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

RT Shelf Kit

I recently purchased the rear trunk shelf kit for my RT. All this is is a flimsy shelf that is held down on one end with Velcro and it sits on top of a strap that goes across the center.

My problem is, the items I place on top of the shelf slide off during the ride. It's like the straps don't support the complete shelf.

Kind of frustrating. Have any of you put this shelf in yourself? Am I missing something?

Any ideas?

:bbq::bbq: I have kept these shelves "on my radar" for quite a while. I've added the top trunk liner, and the MP3 player pouch out back, and I wonder if the shelf kit fits with those mods in place...

My RT-S had one installed by the Dealer when I bought it new and frankly it's a waste of space. I keep it in the up position 80% of the time for short trips and never use it for long. It good to hold gloves or your glass case that's about it.

My limited came with the shelf and the luggage. The only bag I use all the time is the rear one to keep all the lose stuff from getting lost in the trunk. The shelf works really well in this combination. Below the shelf I keep first aid kit, tire repair/inflator some small odds and ends. The BRP travel cover sits on top of all that with the strap to hold it all down. Shelf then rear luggage rests on the strap. I added the rear trunk liner and light as it one very dark abyss.

Do you have a photo of the shelf? Is that a BRP accessory?

My shelf on my Limited worked OK but the velcro kept coming loose from the front edge of the trunk. When this happened, it didn't work very well. I glued the velcro to the front edge of the trunk mounting surface with hot melt and it has stayed. Now the shelf works as it should.

I had the shelf on my previous RT. Before that I had IG's wooden shelf and although it was great quality, I never got the thing to work correctly so I ended up going to BRP's shelf. It worked ok, but it limitted to stuffing big things on the back and most of the time it was lop-sided so a lot of small things would fall on the "black hole" and would end up removing the tool case and half cover. I have Tricled's Spyder Pockets on the top of the lid and it does a much better job.

BRP had them on the Spyder Store in the Owner's event but since it was pretty much on retail price, I didn't even go for it. I'll just use the frunk and the FLO (Front Lid Organizer) for my smaller stuff.

FYI Bob, the shelf and the MP3 player pocket will fit together just fine.

You didnt miss anything.

Inspector Gadget Rear Shelf

Has anyone got the shelf from Inspector Gadget?

Do you know it it folds up?

Seems pretty secure.

It will FLIP up, but it is made of solid wood, so it will not fold up.

Under the heading of "Any Ideas?" I, too, am trying to figure out a solution, and I've come up with one that worked well enough on my recent trip to Maggie Valley. I purchased three, stackable storage containers at Office Depot that fit snuggly into the hole (deepest part of the trunk), leaving the side space for caps, gloves, glasses case, etc., and enough room on top for my BRP jacket.

The containers have snaps to keep them shut and a recess on the top that is used for nesting with another container. The recess on the top container works well for placing items that you need quick access to. I selectively filled the containers with the stuff least needed in the bottom to often needed on the top. Oh, and I used the passenger pad bolt in the back center of the trunk to fasten a 1/2" conduit clamp for my flashlight, to cover me for the occasional dig into the abyss.
