SpyderPops Radiator Block Off Plate

I got my new "block off plate" installed and it works GREAT!

My right foot is happy now...

So....I thought, what a waste having to take that bottom piece of plastic off and discard it! Take a look @ the picture of my newest mod & tell me what you think.

This should allow the hot air that has been re-directed from the radiator out the new vented bottom cover. Total cost was less than $10.00. :clap:

I can't see it on the Spyder in my mind. How about a exterior view photo?

That's the bottom splash pan some of us removed, per the SpyderPops instructions.

Nice job...looks professional. However, you will not get the same volume of air flow you would get with the splash pan removed. Recommend you remove the splash pan and keep it (rather than discard it) should you ever have a need or want to re-install it at a later date.

I agree that folks may want to keep it for whatever reason...

I was uneasy about removing the panel because of the possibility of debris damaging exposed items...I have not reinstalled it yet, just thought it would provide added protection while allowing the air to exit the area...

My recommendation is to ryde your Spyder without the modified splash pan and see where your temp gauge reads. Then install it and see if there is any appreciable difference in operating temperature. If you are happy with the temp readings with your modified pan installed go ahead and leave it on for the added piece of mind.

I took my splash pans off almost a year ago and have not had any issues with debris damage or anything else. Probably best to zip tie any low hanging wires to something to prevent them snagging should you find yourself ryding over unimproved ground. I had to ryde a ways on the unsaved shoulder of a road once as an evasive maneuver...no damage to anything including under the Spyder.

I guess I'm a little paranoid about leaving the belly "unprotected", but I would think if anyone had an issue they would have posted it by now....:2thumbs:

I wouldn't think it is a problem. My main concern was keeping a stick or road kill from getting lodged up in the newly open area...

It will be Friday before I can do a test to see if there is a temperature rise when I install the modified cover...:sour:

Ok thanks I will keep an eye out to see if anything negative occurs. I'm too short to be bothers by the heat from the radiator outlet but would like to reduce engine compartment heat and make it easier for oil changes by removing the splash panels.

Many Spyder ryders have removed the splash pans. Don't recall a post about any negatives, but that doesn't mean there hasn't been some.

So, anyone had any problems attributable to the splash pans being removed?
