• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hi...I am just picking up my new ST Limited on Saturday. I have never purchased an extended warranty on anything that I have bought. After reading the post on the Spyder / high maintenance, I am curious as to how many people buy the extended warranty and is it worth the money. I would appreciate any opinions. Thanks! Jill
 
I had the Best warranty on my 2010RT and I feel that it has paid for itself both in repairs made and also in resale value. It certainly is easier to sell a 3 year old Spyder that has 2 years remaining on the warranty than it would be to sell a 3 year old Spyder with no warranty.
 
I'm like you in that I just never buy extended warranties on anything. But I recently bought a 3rd party extended warranty on my Spyder. The Spyder's systems are so esoteric and can only be addressed by dealers. And, as already mentioned, it could help the resale value.
 
I haven't bought an extended warranty plan YET. However, I did buy the "maintenance plan" offered at my dealer, Seminole Power Sports, in Sanford, Flarda, for $1,500.00, and it is going to turn out to be a steal.

If you intend to keep your Spyder beyond the two year warranty, then it is a good idea to get the extended warranty.:chat:

You do not have to purchase BEST extended warranty at point of purchase, and there are deals to be had if you shop around, or ask here. BEST must be purchased prior to manufacturers warranty end date. That gives you time to gain more knowledge about the spyder, and should help you decide why you may or may not think you need it.

Doesn't it cost less if you purchase it sooner rather than later??

Without knowing the sooner price is, there's nothing to compare the later price to. Most dealers sell BEST or BEST+ at a substantial mark up when it's offered at point of purchase. Having time to shop price just makes sense, since BRP allows it.
 
I couldn't purchase the warranty because my rig was too old when it became new to me. I probably wouldn't get the warranty anyway. They sell the warranty to make money. What is the pricetag on the warranty?
 
My BRP warranty ran out last June. In July I broke down and took it to the dealer. My share of the bill was $1500. Lucky for me BRP warrantied the throttle slide since this was the third one. I wish I had known about Best Warranty. Now I can't get it and I can't afford to trade it in. Learn from others mistakes. :opps:
 
I have heard that there no longer is an extra charge for purchasing the Best warranty beyond the initial 90 day period. Of course there is no guarantee that they won't change that again.
 
Good but when..!!

I never get it at purchase. You always have the option to buy before factory warranty expires. Shop around and find best deal for you. (have a sneaking suspicion that items with electronics have timed chips in them) :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack: my appliances crater days after the warranty expires..:dontknow:
 
Extended warranty

I purchased an extended warranty at the same time I purchased my roadster, I did not buy the BEST warranty.... its from another source but I got a guarantee that I will get all of my warranty purchase price back after 5 years if I do not use the warranty in the 5 years. The deal is to stop you using the warranty for small repairs say $100 to $500 or more and just take care of those yourself, but if you have a catastrophic problem like transmission blowing or motor blowing up or any of the other expensive problems you have the availability to then use the warranty which will probably cost more than what I paid for the extended warranty. Its just so nice to know that you can get all of your money back at the end of the 5 years or if you sell your roadster you can sell it with a full coverage warranty and ask a higher price as it is transferable. So shop around for the best deal.
 
Extended warranties are good/bad--depends on your point of view.

The :spyder2: is a highly technical vehicle. That said, repairs can cost big bucks on some items. If you are planning on keeping your :ani29: beyond the warranty period, then the extended warranty is worth considering.

I have not purchased an extended warranty on any of my four :spyder2:'s. None have been mechanically troublesome either. My 2010 is now out of warranty with 30,000 miles--now I am in the put up or shut up mode. Time will tell if my decision was right.

Extended warranties are cash cows for those selling them. In most cases, they are not needed and just end up costing the owner extra dollars. That said, if you have a :ani29: that is in need of a lot of post warranty repairs--then it is money well spent. If money is tight when it comes to repairs--the warranty purchase may be a good idea up front (financed). A thousand $'s adds about 16.00 per month to the payment (depending on the interest rate).

Thanks for all of the posts. I feel better that at least I can research and decide within the regular warranty period. I don't finance, and I did not even get a quote on what they would charge. (I should have at least listened instead of just stopping the salesman from continuing) I will be curious to see if he asks me again on Saturday. I wasn't even thinking. I just thought that over the last ten years, the only money that I put into my Harley was for inspections, oil changes, brakes, and tires. I wasn't thinking that the Spyder is a totally different vehicle with all of the electronics, et. I guess I will take a look at what is available. It sounds like there is a lot more that go wrong. Thanks, again!
