Silly Question ~ How many of you have gotten a ticket?

I have not gotten a ticket while ryding my Spyder yet, and sincerely hope that trend continues. I cannot say I have not given them plenty of opportunities to give me a ticket, nor will I likely stop anytime soon, I have just been lucky so far.

haven't received one...have received 3....1-El Cajon, CA, I-8-was heading home, ryding in the fast lane, 5 miles faster than the flow of traffic (CA drivers are idiots). Flow of traffic was 80, speed limit is 65. came around the corner and a CHP car was sitting under the 67 interchange. he caught up to me and gave me a ticket. #2-Memorial Day weekend, Alpine, CA, I-8-on a group ryde I had a problem with my S&S helmet, pulled over to fix it, and waved everyone on saying I'll catch up. popped the piece of the helmet back in to place, got onto I-8 and immediately hot on the governor. about a minute later I see the group, and I think, "cool, I'm catching up". 15 seconds later, I look in the median, and see a "polar bear CHP"....aww ****. I slow to 85. and about a minute later, after wondering where the hell he was, he catches up and pulls me over. he walks up, asks me, "do you know how fast you were going?"..."last I saw it was 119". he says, "well I caught you doing 113." he takes my LR&I and returns a few minutes later saying since you were honest with me I wrote the ticket for 99. (so he wouldn't have to take me to jail and haul my Spyder to the impound.) he lets me fo and I get to our lunch spot about 10 minutes late. #3-2 weeks later-El Cajon, CA-heading north on the 67, maintaining 'flow of traffic' speed (80) from I-8, a CHP pulls me over. after sitting under the 56 interchange that was under construction at the time. we pull over and he tries to tell me that it's a construction zone (not a single barrier was on the northbound side, so a construction worker would have to be an idiot/suicidal to cross over the concrete barrier median). I told him that and he comes back with the ticket, which strangely ended up being the most expensive one, I'm guessing cause I hadn't paid the one that is the reason for my club nickname, Agent 99. lol

Fines are doubled in construction zones.....aren't they?

When I was at the University of Maryland, College Park I got a few parking tickets. The meters are unreliable and the parking nazis are always standing by. I have been known to put change in other people's meters which is apparently illegal but, I would just tell the cop that we were in a study group and it was my turn to feed meters.

I got a ticket in my truck on Mother's Day 2005. I was speeding which was what I was pulled over for but, apparently my truck which I had purchased brand new in November 2003 had some paperwork issues and the tag was showing at turned into the MVA October 2003 and my truck was showing as non-registered despite the fact that I had tags, a registration card and stickers. It was a $250 fine and I wasn't supposed to drive the truck away but the copy said "I'm going to turn down that road over there." which I took as permission to leave. After trips to the dealer and the MVA to get it all ironed out I went to court and everything was dropped.

In 2009 I flew to Vegas and rented a car then drove up to Moab, Utah. After a week in Moab I was driving down to Arizona to shoot (photos) at Horseshoe Bend and in Antelope Canyons on my way back to Vegas. I was earlier on a Sunday morning the highway speeds are high (you're driving through the desert) but the "town" speeds are slow and abruptly so. Well, a cop used his x-ray vision and saw me speeding from behind a building. He said I was going 20 over but only wrote the ticket for 10 over. So, no points but I did pay $200. Just after that a car flew past me on a double yellow, no cops in sight.

About two years ago I was pulled over for going 50 in a 35 on a backroad in a speed trap. I was a bit frazzled and when asked for license and registration I handed over my debit card instead, the cop said "that's nice but I need your license." Oops! :opps: I got a warning only, thankfully!

And yep, with the car I pull over, turn on hazards, turn off car, keys out of the ignition (on the dash) and wait for the cop. I haven't been pulled over on the spyder yet. I try to behave with speeding but it's so easy and so fun to speed on them!

And for your demographics female - 29.

I fought it and........

I have to set the situation. About three months after my son was killed in Iraq my wife and I were on our way home from a casino by our house. It was about 1 in the morning and I had won about $400. My wife was counting it and I wasn't paying attention and was going about 65 in a 55. The cop pulled me over and gave me a ticket. $100 and 2 points. Everyone said to go fight it and at least ask the cop to lower it so I don't get the points. So I did. There were three other people the same cop got within 30 minutes of each other and on the same stretch of road. The cop came and asked what I wanted and I told her I only wanted the points taken off. She said ok. I was the first one in to see the magistrate. He recognized that my son recently passed and mentioned he was a member of the "club". The poor cop could only put her head down. She told the magistrate to drop everything. I walked out with tears in my eyes past everyone else waiting to see the magistrate. I didn't think about it, but I just wonder what the other people thought. My wife and I just laughed.

I hope you fought them and got deferrals or reduced points. What I basically do is file plenty of formal discovery requests via mail for all kinds of stuff related to the ticket, the road, the officer, the radar gun, calibration methods, records pertaining to the officer and his/her training on radar gun usage, road speed surveys, etc... They won't want to do all the legwork as it costs too much $$$.... so they'll ask you what you want or offer up a deferral. Last time I did it the judge himself called me and offered the deferral. Once they determine you know your rights and how the system works, they'll want to get rid of you as fast as you were speeding.

If you are a member and get a ticket and fight it using their methods and lose.... they will pay for the ticket....

Is this the time that you ended up with a home-cooked meal from his daughter? ;)

*BING*

I know some say don't remove your helmet, I always remove it, I would prefer for the officer to look at my face' It's more personal' Instead of looking though a helmet like he/she is taking to a robot. Besides when they see my gray hair, It's an automatic downgrade to a warning. :roflblack:
Just the way i do it.:dontknow:

Similar story. Got out on my GSX-R (supersport for those who don't know) 3yrs ago with some buddies, carving up the canyons. Doing about 60 in a 45 section. We pass a nondescript SUV going the other way and I notice out of the corner of my eye his brake lights light up and he pulls a u-turn. Several corners later I see the blue and red blinky lights in my mirror. By the time he walked up to me I had already removed my helmet, bike keys in one hand at my sides. I feign ignorance and claim I thought it was a 55mph section (it was up the road). After the usual questions he hands me my license and reg. and says "I see you are all geared up (full leathers) and I know we just repaved this stretch of road. I'm going to be patrolling here again this afternoon around X:00pm, don't let me catch you."

Yes sir! Thank you sir! To this day I think it was my salt and pepper hair (and the fact I didn't run) that got me off. :D

Are you saying you were not doing something wrong, or,
are you saying you won't admit to it when you do?

Are you saying you were not doing something wrong, or,

Neither.
You fully admit guilt in exchange for the least possible damages on your driving record.. and some extra $$$. This costs you money, which is what the system is designed for. I know many think it's about public safety - but that simply is not true. In almost every speeding ticket case you can get points removed in exchange for more money. If it was truly about safety they would not budge on the points at all.

It's simply using the system for your best possible outcome. When I get pulled over I don't argue with the cop at all. If they ask how fast I thought I was going, I answer them honestly. Of the 4 speeding tickets I've had, 1 of them I didn't even try to fight because the cop was just really cool. He caught me doing 90 in a 55 on some wide open back country roads way up north. He only wrote me for 5 over. The other ones I decided to learn how to fight them and am 3 for 3 on getting points reduced via deferral... but at the added expense of money and time.

This doesn't work as well on traffic violations like running a light, etc. as they don't like to remove points on those, although many states will let you take an online driver safety class (takes about 3 hours) to defer the points.

Certainly not speeding is the best way to avoid such problems, and I've tamed things way down since getting my RT... I didn't even install my radar gear and laser jammers (which are legal in most states) on my RT.. might just end up selling them or saving them for when I get a fast bike again....

Hope that clears things up.

And "roadside field sobriety tests", i.e., physical gymnastics has no correlation to whether your "NORMAL" faculties are impaired. Those tests are designed to fail you. IMHO (Don't beat up on me Joe)

Sure does.

A friend got a ticket for 61 in a 45, before Spyderfest. Got a letter about a week after he received the ticket offering deferment if he simply payed the fine (about 200 smackeroos). Cop said that the big yellow trike makes us targets.nojoke

Yes, it is a silly question, but out of curiosity, how many :spyder2: owners / ryders have gotten a ticket for what ever reason? On a Spyder.

Let's take it even further, Men verses Women.

Moving Violation verses nonmoving.

What was the infraction?

Dismissed or final fine?

What is your story?

Yes I have been stopped... Texas ~ 77 MPH in a 70 zone. No Motorcycle endorsement, No Insurance! Received a written warning and told to drive safely, Have a good day.:yes:

I got caught on a side street near the Boston Market on Route 1 doing 41 in a 25mph residential area.
be carefull!

True (and kinda sad) story on how I got away from a ticket...

A few years back I was driving back from Shreveport to Texarkana and we where in 2 cars. Hwy 71 had a big rig turnover so we had to go thru the backroads. I was given the task to go up front because I had a radar detector at the time. When we were passing the town of Vivian, LA, a local cop pulls me over (the second car kept going). The woman officer tells me that she knew that traffic in the area was going to be busy because of the accident and wanted to let me go, but since her boss was riding with her, she had to give me a ticket (50 in a 35 if I recall). I just got off from doing drivers ed in Texas for another ticket so I am getting upset. A few minutes later she gives me my papers and tell me she was going to let me go free because her neighbor's house was on fire and had to go!:yikes:

Hated for the cop and her neighbor... but what luck! Sure hope nothing major happened that night...
