Got my 2013 RT Limited new on April 27, 2013....seat being customized

Took the spyder to a custom auto upholsterer today, one that specialized in high end hot rod renovations. He is going to redesign my stock seat resulting in moving me back 4+ inches and going to re-cover it with a better grade motorcycle seat material, that will allow you to shift on the seat easier...the stock seat is kind of sticky for doing that. I only ride solo anyway, so I want a bigger area for me, the sole rider on the bike. This will place the huge floorboards and brake pedal more forward for long distance riding comfort. Surgery on the seat will start and be completed on 28 May. In and out...turn key. Looking forward to it. Total cost is only $250. A better deal than buying a new seat. Regards, Ken

I am having it done at Carolina Custom Upholstery, Sunset Beach, NC. Barry Allen is the owner and artist doing the job. Of course, the way I do it might not be the way others will want. You would have to negotiate you needs and price with him, as I did. Please do not refer to my job in negotiating your job. Thanks, Ken

He does not mess around. I take it in on 28th May and he works several hours on it and the seat is done...I get it back probably within 4 hours. I leave the whole bike there.

I'm standing by, too! A trip to NC might be in order this summer/fall! I liked the Ultimate seat but it raised me up too high and that caused massive buffetting. I'm looking at windshield options and plan to go down to FL to get one put on but I'm open to options like this and perhaps hopping on a Corbin for a test, too.

Took my stock seat to the upholsterer today to re-work the seat to my specs. He just called and said I could pick up the finished product. He said it was a little more work than estimated, but we had a flat price...can't wait to see it reshaped for me. Will post pics later.

Pictures Provided....

Rather than duplicate all of the pictures in my forum album, I refer you to my album for pictures taken today. The seat, as far as roominess for me, is perfect. Very comfortable and he did exactly what I wanted. I can now add a back rest. The seat developed a small wrinkle that I will take back and have him tighten up. Overall, I gained almost 4 inches and my legs (inseam of 32 inches) are super comfortable. You can also see that I added HMT brake/running light to the trunk, Baker lower wings and the heat block off shield.

On the seat remake, I had him save and reinsert the RT Limited embroidery. I did not have the passenger backrest done...it is as stock. So I had him use matching color thread and a heavy vinyl that is used a lot in marine/boat applications. I also use a black sheepskin over my seats, and it fits perfectly for me on this. Keep us 13' owners posted how you like the Baker lower wings as well as the heat block off shield. Have not experienced the hot foot issue myself, but we have had only a few 80's + days, so I am curious as to your feedback. Thanks!
