My Russell Day Long seat is here!!

My husband installed it for me and everything. Now I have to ride to work today, just to try it out. I am hoping for one clear day this weekend to test it out on the long haul. I also got some red stitching as an accent and I think it looks nice. Here are some photos. I don't expect everyone to like it but so far, I like the look and the feel. I'll know more after some riding.

I'm looking forward to the review. The day long certainly looks a lot better on the Spyder than any of the bikes I've seen with them, it looks natural on the Spyder. Might be something I have to consider.

Nice, Deb. If you get a chance, I'd like to see a pic or two of you on it - wondered how deep the seat is - are you able to use the low back rest? Do they customize them depending on your height, etc. or all they all basically the same dimensions?

Hey Jane,
It is completely custom. They ask for height, weight inseam and photos of my riding position. They will also alter it twice for you after the break in period if need be. I will post their guarantee at the end of this post. I was impressed with it. I had them sit me up a touch higher and closer to my tank area. That makes it easier to be in a reclining type position for the long trips. I also put on my Biker's Friend bag that completes my back rest. (see my Mods) I have not been on it long enough yet to give a full review. I will try to do a nice ride this weekend and get some photos of me on the seat and give my impressions.

Warranty & General Information

Guarantee;
Any Custom fitted "Day-Long" Saddle found not to provide satisfactory comfort after the break-in period may be returned for a full refund of the purchase price provided Russell Cycle Products is notified within a 8 month period and allowed at least two chance's to adjust the seat for any condition Russell Cycle Products deems correctable within the 8 month period.

Materials and Workmanship are guaranteed for 18 months from purchase. Any failure, except upon our finding of damage due to accident, neglect or abuse, will be repaired or replaced free of charge upon return to Russell Cycle Products. If you remove your cover or tamper with your Saddle, your warranty will be voided.

What Constitutes a comfort adjustment verses a modification;
A comfort adjustment is any change Russell Cycle Products implements to prevent a slide forward situation, relieve uncomfortable pressure. widen or modify pocket, create better ground reach. Or a slight adjustment in forward or aft position. (no more than 1" in either direction)

A modification is any major change that you may request that constitutes a cover change or replacement.Or any modification that was not originally requested on your order form, or any requests that do not fall within our normal building parameters. These changes are not considered a warranty item and will be charged for accordingly.

Your sitting position;
Your seating position pictures that are required with your order are a very important aspect of your seat build. It is critical that you are in the exact position where you want the pocket placed. Pay attention to where you are sitting while riding. Many people move to a different position for still pictures verses a moving position. These pictures are what the builders use for your saddle placement and to place you in the best ergonomic position. If you request a major move from your original position it will be considered a modification and you will be charged.

Any Adjustments or modifications must be scheduled as stated on your warranty papers. The break-in period is critical. There are spring tensioners that will loosen slightly.along with foam resiliency. If you ship your seat for a adjustment without prior notification you will not have a priority position and we can not guarantee a return time. We generally will want to get some pictures of you on your Day-Long Saddle for any adjustments. It will be necessary for you to call and talk to your builder before shipping. Your builder will notify you of the pictures he will require.

Russell Cycle Products policy on adjustments is as follows; It is the customers responsibility to ship the seat to our factory after you have been scheduled. Russell Cycle Products will preform the adjustment and pay for return shipping.

The Day-Long Suspension Saddle is designed in a way to provide total support. A slight adjustment in the way you stop is required.On some models you will need to shift forward out of the pocket to get get feet down. This is a slight adjustment that once implemented will become second nature and before long will be automatic for you. If you are having difficulty reaching the ground on your stock seat, we will not be able to lower you. The Day-Long Saddle will raise you slightly and may not be the correct style seat for you. We can manufacture a Day-Long Sport Saddle for customers with this problem. It will not provide the same comfort as the suspension saddle, but will be a great improvement over the stock seat.

Very Short Ride Review

Well, the short ride I was able to take last night really isn't enough time to give a fair and accurate review but here are my initial thoughts on my seat.

In the cruising position, I believe I am absolutely going to love this seat. I am sitting up a bit higher and closer to the front of the bike and when I get in a leaning cruising position my legs reach my highway pegs much easier and more comfortably. I will have to adjust my windshield or break down and maybe get myself a slider as now I sit up a bit higher. The comfort level of the seat is fantastic. It isn't cushy and soft even though it looks that way but it holds my bottom and supports it and appears to relieve pressure from the tailbone area. I will know more about this after a long ride.

For the short, everyday riding, I still have some evaluating to do. I am definitely sitting more forward (granted, I asked for this in my order) but it almost seems too far forward. I was reading the guarantee and I see I can ask for it to be backed up about an 1" which is really about what I think it may need. I like the way I sit and I do use the small back rest that was built in. To get the full benefit though I will have to put my bikersfriend bag on the back seat. Because I have that bag is the reason I didn't order a built in drivers back rest.

Also, I ordered leather which is a bit slippery. I do not mind that as I have been used to slippery with my bead rider. But I have to tell you, with my winter Thermosuit on the leather seat, it is very slippery. Jeans will hold in place much better.

Initial impressions: I am very happy. I need to give it more time and miles for a true review. I love the look and overall feel. The workmanship appears to be top notch. Might have to have part of riders seat moved back about one inch, only time will tell. I will keep you all informed.

What color is your Spyder? Looks good!

Looks really nice Deb. Give it some time before you send it back. I know the Corbin took some time for me to get use to.

Looks like all you need now is a trailer. :doorag:

I almost got a back rest but my bikersfriend bag does it for me already so I didn't spend the extra cash. It looks nice though. How do you like the seat so far for riding. Have you spent much time on it. This is your wife's though right? How does she like it? Please do tell.

Looks like we'll have a good mix of their seat stitching patterns. I am getting the half moon pattern. Deb's small diamond pattern looks really good in person, much better than in their sales pics, IMO. I almost changed mine to the small diamond but decided to stick with the half moon. The rectangular pattern looks good on your wife's Spyder jnt.

I'm only about three weeks from having mine back... :yes:

There is something poetic about getting a seat with a half moon pattern...

I just had to ride and get some time on this seat...

Okay, it was sunny, 30 degree F with a wind chill of 22 degree F and the roads are clear and clean and dry. So I put on the winter gear and headed out. I decided I needed to ride about an hour to get a good feel. You know what, an hour later, I am feeling pretty darn good about this seat. When I got home I was still debating on weather or not I feel like I need it altered back just a bit and then it hit me. I have never ridden on it in anything but my Thermosuit. I had never even sat on it in just plain jeans which is my normal riding apparel. So back out to the garage to sit on my spyder and my new seat with my regular jeans on. Boy what a nice fit. I am sure this seat is a keeper as is. I won't really know for sure until my first long haul, but I am feeling pretty good about it. I still have to post some pics of me sitting on the seat. I will try to get that done tomorrow.
