• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Insurance issue

Has anyone ran into this? State Farm called me and said that my VIN # shows my Spyder is a SM5 when it is actually a SE5. Apparently something in the numbers denote this. I called BRP and they said they have it as a SE5. State Farm is deciding how to explain this to the underwiters who are questioning this. The other part of this is that there is no premium difference from one to the other.

Check your policy VIN number against your actual VIN number.

Here's why. My State Farm agent could not find a slot(grouping for insurance purposes) for my KTM 'SMT' when he was preparing my paperwork for submission to SF headquarters. So, he changed 1 letter in my VIN number. That letter caused headquarters to insure it as a 'RACE' version of the KTM family.

The story is to long to say how I discovered how, and why, other than double checking things often proves to be worth the effort.

Computers are stupid that's why the term GI GO. Garbage in Garbage out. It is very important to update the right vin #

To error is human

But if you really want to screw something up use a computer.

My VIN was screwed up with American Family when I first got insured. :banghead:

I verified my VIN # with BRP. my bike, my title and the insurance co...all are the same.

Funny... when a user calls me with an issue (usually wrong in their end) I tell them, "the biggest error on the computer is in front of the monitor and the keyboard!"

.... then they slam the phone on me... I wonder why?!?!

Some people can't take a joke and the joker is usually them. Guess that is why they are so sad when they find out they are not at the CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE!

Part of their issues is that they go into panic mode every time something different happens. Then they call me and the first thing they do is ask me what did I do different (which most of the times it doesn't affect them from a desktop perspective) and blame me because they are behind. Just because they didn't do their job correctly doesn't make it an emergency from my part, then it's when I hear the issues!:banghead:

Out of my soapbox... Yeah, verify the VIN numbers from your end and let them know what you found out.

Like the others have said. It sounds like they got the VIN # wrong and need to re-enter. State Farm is my insurance company and have not had any problems with any of my :ani29:'s.

I'm with Jerbear on this. It's not costing you anything so let them sort it out, it's not your problem.

You say all paper work is correct so no problem at your end now or when you want to sell.

Get VIN Issue Fixed

I'm not, you should get this fixed as there is a difference in what the insurance company will pay you for the spyder should you have a comprehensive claim. that you won't, but the insurance co. should have the machine properly described or there WILL be issues with any claim (I can just about guarantee that). Have fairly recent experience with spydercowboy's accident in January 2012 and did not have any trouble ... but was advised by the salvage yard to be sure vehicles (especially motorcycles) have correct information across the board to avoid issues should a claim need to be filed.

Best Regards ... Ann

Don't stress..!!

But do follow up. Never assume its all the same if no cost difference. If they are questioning there must be something. Let them know the bike# brp's registered # and have them follow up and tell you the difference...:dontknow:

I will stay at it. I will probably have to take it up there and have them take some pics. I have dealt with them for years with no issues and they are being great about it. The underwriters are questioning this, which I think is fine and yes they must get to the point that they and I feel comfortable that if something happens I will be protected. Again, no ill feelings against State Farm. Apparently some combination of numbers in the VIN say this bike is a SM. They also say there is no premium difference but I told them if I were to have a claim I would have a surcharge/ upgrade for the SE.

Maybe they just want to see one of the coolest bikes made?

We're Spyder folks; there's a real good chance that your underwriter couldn't even spell it correctly... He(She) may not have a clue as to what is, or isn't, possible... they may in fact even be keying in something wrong at their end of the internet and not know it. If there were to be a claim; it's already been documented that this issue has popped up... It's easy enough for a couple of pictures to determine what sort of transmission your bike has, so I highly doubt that you'd get caught holding the short end of the stick in any insurance settlement process.

This is a first....... No insurance carriers have ever asked or even mentioned anything reguarding transmission of any motorcycle I have ever owned. They only want to know cc's, make, model, year and vin# :dontknow:
