• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Squeal

Noticed a squeal in the left front wheel. I jacked it up and turned the wheel and it was loud but not over the entire rotation. I have no idea what it could be but I don't like it.

If your :spyder2: still under warranty take it to the dealer and let them figure it out. There might be a left axle bearing issue.:(:( Lets us know the result.

brake drag

Watch your rotor where the pads contact it and see if the 'rotors offset' is pushing the pads back far enough.

It could be something as simple as pads that have become a little damp with humidity or dirty rotors, it could be something that indicates a serious brake problem, or it could be something in between. If you ride it and it disappears after you use the brakes a few times, you should be good to go. Beyond that inspect the rotors for signs of burning or dirt build-up, and inspect the calipers/pads for dirt accumulation. Clean with a good brake parts cleaner if necessary. If these aren't the problems, have the brakes thoroughly inspected by the dealer for pad glazing or hard spots, pad failure, or caliper pin wear. The lack of noise through the full rotation is probably caused by the rotor being slightly cocked on the mounts it floats on. BMWs are reknowned for this as the mounting buttons wear.

Tap..!!

Used to see allot of sticky calipers in my time. Tapping on the caliper with a dead blow hammer would loosen it up momentarily. In the long run the pistons would have to be cleaned and the o rings replaced. Seems more like a dirty disk. I would check both the abs disk and the brake disk. Bearings don't squeal as much as grind and wobble. Trip to the dealer might be in store if it does not go away...:dontknow:

Can you touch the rotor to see if it's hot? (Carefully; of course!) ;)
That would indicate that you've got some drag going on in there.
I'd guess that you might want to pop things apart, and give the caliper a good cleaning out!

Thanks Bob, you must have me confused with someone that has mechanical aptitude...LOL I've never had any desire to screw with brakes, they must work when you need them.

Not sure why you're asking what to do, then...see your dealer if applying the brakes doesn't cure them in a stop or two. :D

 If you just jacket up and pop the wheel off; the brakes are actually a pretty darn simple component... 2 bolts hold the caliper on, and 2 pins hold the pads...
Easy-peasey!:2thumbs:

Took it to the dealers today and inspection indicated that the pads and rotor may have glazed. After some clean-up the problem seems to be solved. The mechanic asked me if the pads had ever been replaced and when I told him no he asked if I ever used them, said he didn't recall anyone ever going that far on the orginal pads and that the ones n the bike looked fine, they would still pass inspection.

"he asked if I ever used them"... Don, you should have told him no, you just drag your feet to stop:yikes:.
